ViewSonic introduces VTablet 101 ARM-based tablet

ViewSonic, a company best known for making LCD TVs and PC monitors has been putting out netbooks and mini-desktops for a little while. And now the company wants in on the tablet space as well. While the company was rather quiet on the tablet front at the decidedly tablet-heavy Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas earlier this month, ViewSonic held an event in Beijing yesterday to introduce a new 8.9 inch tablet running Google Android and based on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform.

The ViewSonic VTablet 101 packs a 1GHz ARM-based processor and NVIDIA graphics. That means it should have enough oomph to pump out 1080p HD video, and once Google and Adobe bring Flash support to the Android operating system, it should be able to play HD Flash video from the web as well.

The tablet features a 1024 x 800 pixel display, 4GB of flash storage, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G options, although you’ll need a USB 3G stick to use the mobile broadband option.

The VTablet 101 will sell for about $440 in China. no word on whether it will make it to the US.

ViewSonic introduces its first Windows 7 netbook

viewsonic vnb102

ViewSonic, like virtually every netbook maker on the face of the earth, is introducing a new Windows 7 version of its 10 inch mini-laptop. The VNB102 with Windows 7 Starter Edition will hit the streets on December 18th for about $399.

Aside from the new operating system, there’s little to set the VNB102 apart from earlier netbooks from ViewSonic, or pretty much any other PC vendor, for that matter. The computer has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive.

The screen is a 10 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display. It sports Ethernet, 802.11b/g/ WiFi, and a VGA output. And the netbook has a 6 cell battery that ViewSonic says is good for up to 6 hours.

Viewsonic intros two new Dell Zino-style nettops powered by Core2 T6600

viewmini-asdf-asdAs with any other slick, new tech products that arrive on the scene the Dell Zino HD looks like it’s going to have its share of imitators. Viewsonic has released two new nettops – the PC Mini VOT530 and VOT550.

Unlike the Zino, Viewsonic has opted to stick with an Intel CPU. The VOT models include a 2.2GHz Core2 T6600 processor running on the Intel GM45 + ICH9M chipset. The VOT530 bundles 2GB DDR2 memory, a 320GB 2.5″ SATA hard drive, and a DVD-burner while the VOT550 gets bumped to 4GB DDR2, a 500GB hard drive, and a Blu-ray/DVD-burner combo drive.

Both run Windows 7 home premium and have one serious shortcoming: lack of an HDMI port. Even with Intel graphics on the VOTs, I’d still expect a box like this to include single-cable hookup to a desktop monitor or HDTV.

They’re both on sale now at Amazon – $652.99 for the VOT530 and $865.99 for the VOT550.

ViewSonic VPC101 all-in-one coming soon with Windows 7 + touchscren

viewsonic vpc101

ViewSonic introduced three new computers this week, including a relatively inexpensive Windows 7 all-0in-one PC with a touchscreen display and two mini-PCs that are too powerful and expensive to really consider nettops. So I’m kind of ignoring the $750 VOT530 PC Mini and the $950 VOT550 for now and focusing instead on the upcoming $VPC101 all-in-one that should be available in December.

Like the ViewSonic VPC100 that I got a chance to check out a few weeks ago, the VPC101 features an 18.5 inch, 1366  768 pixel display. But the new model has a touchscreen and runs Windows 7 Home Premium which includes touch-friendly features.

The computer has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 CPU, integrted GMA 950 graphics, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. So it’s basically a netbook dressed up in a desktop’s clothing. But like a netbook it also has 802.11b/g WiFi, which I’m starting to think should be a standard feature in all desktop computers. After futzing with setting up a new router in my house last weekend, I realized that life would be a lot simpler if I didn’t need to connect any desktop PC in the house to the home network using an Ethernet cable. For now I’m using Powerline adapters, but I digress…

Anyway, the VPC101 has a list price of $650 and it should be available in December. But keep in mind, the VPC100 lists for $600, but it’s already available for as little as $469.

Viewsonic launches Viewbook 120: a 12.1 inch CULV powered notebook

viewsonic viewbook 120Viewsonic is adding a 12.1 inch thin and light laptop to its PC lineup with the ViewBook 120. The company has been pumping out 10 inch netbooks for a little while, but this is the first 12 inch model with an Intel CULV processor.

The ViewBook 120 features a dual core 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU2300 processor and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. It has 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and the usual array of ports and jacks. One nice feature is that the laptop has an ExpressCard slot, which is something you don’t find on many netbooks these days.  , 250GB, 5400rpm, 22000NT, 500 Euros ExpressCard slot. Glossy lid, high capacity battery

The Viewsonic Viewbook 120 looks a lot like the company’s smaller netbooks. I was kind of disappointed to see that it doesn’t have a larger keyboard. The laptop has a 1280 x 800 pixel display and according to Sascha from Netbook News, it could run about $600.

You can check out Sascha’s hands-on video after the break.

ViewSonic’s all-in-one desktop PC

aio-1

Viewsonic first showed off an Atom powered all-in-one PC at CES in January, and the company made the PC official in June. But I got my first look at the Viewsonic VPC100 last week, and while it’s a nice looking 18.5 inch all-in-one, I’m not convinced it’s worth the $599 asking price, especially considering you can pick up an Asus Eee top ET2002T all-in-one with NVIDIA ION graphics for the same price. The VPC1000 has standard Intel GMA 950 graphics.

On the other hand, Amazon is selling the computer for $499 , which certainly seems a bit more reasonable.

The computer does have an 18.5 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display with a 5ms response time, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1Gb of RAm, a 160Gb hard drive, an 8x DVD RW drive, 4 USB ports, Ethernet, and 802.11b/g WiFi. The computer has a 1.3MP webcam, built in speakers and a mic.<

Closer look at Viewsonic’s VOT131 ION-powered nettop – Video

vot131

You know how computer products are often announced at one price overseas and then wind up selling for a bit less once they hit the US market? It looks like Viewsonic might have missed that memo. The company is selling a nettop with a dual core Intel Atom 330 processor and NVIDIA graphics for about $514 in China, but when I caught up with Viewsonic this week I was told that a virtually identical PC will cost $599 in the US.

For that price you could get an Asus Eee Top ET2002T which has the same specs plus a 20 inch monitor and a built in DVD drive. Viewsonic charges an extra $100 for a DVD drive module that snaps onto the nettop.

The Viewsonic VOT131 is certainly attractive, and it’s one of the smallest nettops I’ve seen. I’m just not sure why anyone would pay $599 for it. You can check out my hands-on video after the break.

Hands on with the ViewSonic ViewBook VNB102

viewbook vnb102Viewsonic has been showing off a line of netbooks since January, but now it looks like the company is finally ready to bring a low price mini-laptop to market. The Viewsonic VNB102 is pretty much what you’d expect from a 10 inch netbook with an Intel Atom processor. It has 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU and 10.1 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display.

The laptop is shipping with Windows XP Home Edition and a 3 cell battery for $349. Another $50 will get you a model with a 6 cell battery.

The company had a demo unit running Linux on hand at the Pepcom trade show in New York on Thursday night, but there are no plans to sell the VNB102 with Linux. Still, I suppose it’s nice to know that it’s Linux-ready, but given its similarities to virtually every other Atom powered netbook on the market, I’d be more surprised if it couldn’t run a Linux distribution or two.

You can check out a few more photos after the break. The folks at laptop Magazine also have details on ViewSonic’s ViewBok Pro VNB132 which is a 13 inch laptop with a dual core Intel CULV processor.

Viewsonic introduces line of ION powered nettops

viewsonic nettops

Viewsonic, a company best known for making LCD displays, has also dipped its toe into the netbook space. And now the company is introducing its first nettops, or low power desktop computers. The Viewsonic VOT 130 is a pretty typical nettop with an Atom N270 CPU, GMA950 graphics, up to 2GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive.

But there’s also a souped up model called the VOT 132 that packs a dual core Atom 330 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics. The VOT132 will support up to 3GB of RAM and come with a 250GB hard drive, as well as HDMI output. Both models have 6 USB ports, DVI, Ethernet, and 802.11b/g/n WiFi.

The VOT 130 will sell for about $331 while the NVIDIA ION-powered VOT 132 will set you back about $514.

Viewsonic is also introducing a handful of other computers including the somewhat chunkier VOT 120 nettop with an Atom N270 CPU, the VOT 121 with a 1.3GHz CULV Su2700 CPU. Both of these models include Intel GS40 graphics, up to 2GB of RAM, and 160GB hard drives. They’ll sell for $301 and $423.

The company also has two new netbooks, the VNB 100 and VNB 101. These two netboks sport 10.2 inch, 102 x 600 pixel displays. up to 2GB of RAM, 160GB hard drives, 802.11b/g WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.0. The VNB 100 has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU while the VNB 101 has a slightly faster 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor. The VNB 100 will retail for about $433, while the VNB 101 will set you back about $483.

If you’re looking for something with a small form factor, but don’t care so much about the low power Atom processor, the company’s new VOT 530 and 550 desktops look like Mac Mini’s painted black, and each sports a 2.1GHz Intel Core2 Duo CPU and up to 4GB of RAM. These guys will sell for $818 to $1121.

You can find more information and additional photos at Engadget Chinese.
