Tesco is NOT selling the Dell Inspiron Mini 10

The product formerly known as the Dell Inspiron Mini 10

Silly me. When I saw that UK retailer Tesco was selling the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 the other day, I assumed it was taking preorders on a product that hadn’t been released yet. But apparently what actually happened was the company put up a product page for the 10 inch netbook and shipped Dell’s existing 9 inch netbook to customers instead.

Tesco has removed the product page, so I’m going to give the company the benefit of the doubt for now and assume that this was a big mixup and nothing malicious.

Update: False alarm. Tesco was actually shipping the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. The offending product page has been removed.

Dell has yet to unveil the official pricing for the Inspiron Mini 10 netbook. But UK-based retailer Tesco isn’t playing coy. The company has created a product page for Dell’s upcoming 10 inch mini-laptop, complete with a price tag: £349. That’s about $479 in US dollars, but there’s no telling whether the UK price bears any resemblance to the figure that Dell will charge for the netbook in the US.

The computer on Tesco’s site features a 160GB hard drive, 1Gb of RAM, and an Intel Atom Silverthorne CPU. It runs Wndows XP, and according to Tesco, “requires an adult to sign upon delivery.” There’s also no word on the actual ship date, but I’m guessing it’s available for preorder today, and won’t actually ship for a while.
