Samsung, MSI add a little color to their netbooks

Red MSI Wind U100Looking for a netbook that doesn’t come in the usual black or white color scheme? Acer, Dell, and Lenovo already offer a choice of colors. And now Samsung is jumping on the bandwagon, with the release of a blue model of the Samsung NC10 netbook.

MSI, which has already released black, white, and pink versions of the MSI Wind U100 is also expanding its color lineup with a limited edition red model. The cherry red MSI Wind U100 will only be available in Taiwan at launch, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it show up in other countries in the not too distant future.

Red, pink Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbooks hit Japan

dell-mini-redWay back when Michael Dell first “leaked” news about the Dell Inspiron Mini netbook line to Gizmodo, he was carrying a machine with a glossy red cover. But so far the netbook has only been available in black or white. Now it looks like red and pink models are about to be released – in Japan.

Dell is also releasing a new configuration called the Platinum Package in Japan that will come with a 32GB, Windows XP Home, and  and Microsoft Office 2007. The versions available in the US come with 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB solid state disks. The Platinum Package will set you back 54,980 yen, or about $569 US, while the basic model with a 4GB SSD and Ubuntu Linux costs just 34980 yen, or about $362 US.
