Sylvania G Meso now available for pre-order

The Sylvania G Meso netbook might not be available just yet, but you can now pre-order the laptop at J&R or Datavision. Both stores are charging $399 for the black version. While Datavision is charging an extra $50 for the white, pink, or yellow models, J&R only offers white for now.

The Sylvania G Meso sports an 8.9 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 512MB of RAM, and an 80GB hard drive. In other words, it looks a lot like pretty much every other low cost ultraportable hitting the market this summer. But the price ain’t bad.

Lenovo IdeaPad S10 (almost) available for pre-order

Lenovo has posted an order page for the IdeaPad S10 mini-notebook. For $429 you can get a laptop with a 10.2 inch display, 512MB of RAM, an 80GB HDD, a 3 cell battery, and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU. And as one Engadget reader points out, you can apparently knock 15% off the price with the coupon code USPIDEAPAD15.

But the checkout process doesn’t seem to work just yet. While you can add a computer to your cart, add a few customization options, and proceed to checkout, when it comes time to process your payment, an error message pops up telling you to try again later.

While you can add software and hardware (like a wireless router) to your order, there does not seem to be an option to upgrade the RAM, get a 6 cell battery, or change the hard drive to an SSD. Perhaps these options will be available later. Oh, and if you want a red or white unit, you’ll have to pay an extra $10. The $429 price only applies to the black model.

The laptops also won’t actually ship until October September 9, so it probably doesn’t matter too much if you get your order in this week or next.

Update: It looks like orders are going through now. Just placed mine!

Amazon starts taking MSI Wind preorders

Amazon is now accepting orders for the MSI Wind. For $499 you can order the black model with Windows XP and a 3-cell battery. Amazon says the computer will ship within 3 to 5 weeks. While there are product pages for the white and pink models, you cannot preorder these versions yet. Or you could place an order directly from the MSI Shop where you’ll apparently save $20. MSI is selling the same computer for $479.

The company dropped the price a bit when it made the decision to ship the Wind notebook with 3-cell batteries instead of 6, due to a global battery shortage. It’s not clear why that price change isn’t reflected at Amazon.

The MSI Shop gives an estimated ship date of July 7th. It’s possible that Amazon is just being conservative with its 3 to 5week ship date. After all, the Wind was supposed to be available on June 16th, but that date has already been pushed back twice.

Eee PC 900 available for preorder at Amazon

Asus is set to release the Eee PC 900 in the US tomorrow. But if you can’t wait to get your order in, Amazon has launched pre-order pages for both the Linux and Windows XP models.

The Windows model sports 12GB of flash memory while the Linux version has 20GB. Otherwise, the two machines are pretty much identical. Both sell for $549. Only the pearl/white units are available right now, but expect to see black and other color options soon.

If that’s more money than you’re willing to spend, you can always pick up a refurbished Eee PC 701 for less than half the price. Or you can pre-order a CTL 2Go PC (Classmate 2) from Amazon. The Classmate featrues a 9 inch 800 x 480 pixel display, and a 40GB hard drive. The Windows version goes for $469, while you can get a Linux model for $399.

Update: The Eee PC 900 is now officially available.
