Asus Eee PC 1201N now shipping in the US

asus eee pc 1201n

The Asus Eee PC 1201N notebook with NVIDIA ION graphics and a dual core Intel Atom 330 CPU is now shipping in limited qualities from Newegg. You can pick one up for about $499.

The laptop has a 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and runs Windows 7 Home Premium. You also get 500GB of free online storage when you purchase this notebook (or a number of other new models from Asus). The 1.6GHz dual core Atom 330 processor is more commonly found in nettops, making this one of the few notebooks to use the dual core Atom CPU.

You may not notice a huge performance boost from the CPU in most tasks, but it should help a bit with multitasking and when running tasks that can take advantage of both processors. For instance, when I used MediCoder to transcode a video using machines with dual core and single core Atom processors, the dual core model completed the task in almost half the time.

And of course the NVIDIA ION graphics should give you a boost for watching HD video or playing some modern video games. At $499, the Asus Eee PC 1201N isn’t the cheapest NVIDIA ION-powered notebook on the market. That award goes to the HP Mini 311. But if you’re a sucker for a dual core CPU and a slightly larger display, the Asus Eee PC 1201N might be the way to go.

Newegg is only accepting one order per customer at the moment, which would seem to imply that there aren’t a heck of a lot of units to go around.

Samsung N310 unboxed, coming to Newegg next week – Video

n310 unboxed

Samsung may be calling its new netbook with colorful, rubberized cases the Samsung Go in the US, but it’ll always be the N310 to me. See how it rolls off the tongue? Anyway, the N310 isn’t shipping in the US yet, but according to the folks at online retailer Newegg, it should be available next week.

And to prove it (sort of), Newegg has posted an unboxing video showing one of the first N310 units to hit US shores. Check it out after the break.

Asus Eee PC 1008HA makes an appearance on Newegg

1008ha-newegg

Newegg

The Asus Eee PC 1008HA netbook is already starting to hit the streets in the UK, but it won’t be available in the US for a few more days. But Chris at Netbook Reviews noticed that US retailer Newegg posted product pages for the new netbook yesterday afternoon. For a brief period of time, the site listed a price of $429 and a ship date of May 18th, but that information has been taken down, leaving just two pages with “deactivated items” for the white and black Eee PC 1008HA models.

Last I’d heard, the netbook was supposed to be available for pre-order on the 18th, so my guess is that the ship date was wrong and that Newegg wasn’t supposed to put these web pages online at all until Monday. But if you’ve got nothing better to do this weekend, you might want to try hitting refresh repeatedly to see what happens.

Samsung NC20 now available in the US

Newegg.com

Newegg.com

Online retailer Newegg is taking orders for the Samsung NC20 laptop.  The NC20 is a bit large to be considered a netbook. It has a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display and a full sized keyboard. But it weighs just 3.3 pounds and bears a more than passing resemblance to the smaller, lighter Samsung NC10 netbook.

Aside from the size difference, one of the main things setting the NC20 apart from the NC10 and other netbooks is the processor. Samsung resisted the urge to place yet another Intel Atom processor in this laptop, and instead chose to use a 1.3GHz VIA Nano U2250 processor with integrated VIA Chrome9 graphics.

From the reports I’ve read you probably won’t notice a huge difference in performance between this particular CPU and an Intel Atom chip. But that’s already an improvement over VIA’s older C7-M mobile processors that were showing up in netbooks last year. They were significantly pokier than the Intel Celeron and Atom chips used by netbook makers. And VIA does have a few more powerful Nano processors in its arsenal, so future notebooks and netbooks using the Nano platform might be able to outperform your typical Intel Atom powered netbook in some areas.

Newegg is charging $549.99 for the Samsung NC20 with 1Gb of RAM, a 160Gb hard drive, and Windows XP Home.

Asus N10 laptop in stock at Newegg

More Savings on Some of the Hottest Laptops at Newegg.com

The Asus “don’t-call-it-a-netbook” N10 netbook has been available for pre-order for a few weeks now from retailers including J&R and Amazon. But Newegg is the first store I’ve seen to have the new laptop in stock.

Newegg has three separate product listings. For $599.99 you can pick up the Asus N10E-A1 with 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Windows XP Home, and integrated graphics. At $699.99 the N10J-A1 offers 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and an NVIDIA GeForce 9300M graphics card with 256MB of video memory. This model also has a fingerprint reader and runs Windows Vista Business.

The top of the line N10J-A2 has 2GB of RAM, the same discrete graphics card as the N10J, and Windows Vista Business. But priced at $799.99 this machine comes with a roomy 320GB hard drive.

The cheapest model has a 3 cell battery and 802.11b/g wireless support while the N10J-A1 and A2 both come with 6 cell batteries and 802.11b/g/n. The higher end models also include Bluetooth support.

You can read more about the Asus N10 in the Liliputing Product Database.

MSI Wind with 6-cell battery now in stock at Newegg – in pink

MSI Wind U100-039US Intel Atom 10.0 After taking a brief hiatus from shelves everywhere, it looks like the version of the MSI Wind laptop with the 6 cell battery is starting to reappear. Or at least the version with the pink cover is anyway.

Whether you’re naturally drawn to pink or you just think your laptop is less likely to be stolen when you leave it on a table and run to the Starbucks restroom if its pink (you’re probably wrong, by the way), you can now get yourself a pink, 6 cell MSI Wind for $549 from Newegg.

Eee PC 1000H price drop: $550 from Newegg

It looks like Asus may be knocking $100 off the price of the Eee PC 1000H. While Amazon is still taking preorders for $650, Newegg is charging just $550. Newegg is also offering 3 day shipping and says the computer is in stock.

I’d say this was just a case of one retailer offering a deal, but Mwave has the Eee PC 1000H listed for $560. Unfortunately, Mwave says the computer isn’t currently in stock yet. But hey, two makes a trend. Or something.

The Eee PC 1000H has a 10 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. It comes with Windows XP and a 6 cell battery. In other words, you get everything you’d find in an MSI Wind notebook, plus a higher capacity battery. Currently the MSI Wind ships with a 3 cell battery.

At $479, the MSI Wind is still cheaper than the Asus Eee PC 1000H. But if you have your heart set on an Asus product (or a higher capacity battery), this price cut certainly looks like good news.
