Google Chrome OS demoed on Asus touchscreen T91 MT

chrome-touch-asdfsad

Earlier today you read about Dell’s customized Chrome OS image for Mini 10V owners, and the enthusiast news about Google’s OS preview keeps popping up.

Now, we’ve got a YouTube video from an Asus T91 MT user who has gotten Chrome OS installed and demoed it using his system’s touchscreen. While it’s obvious that a good calibration is needed, the video is still an interesting look at Chrome OS on one more type of device we’re likely to see it shipping on next year.

Check the video after the break!

PIXCIR launches capacitive multi-touch netbook displays – Video

pixcir

Chinese electronics maker PIXCIR is introducing a line of 7 and 8.9 inch touchscreen displays for netbooks that support capacitative multi-touch features. In other words, you can use two-finger gestures do to things like close a program, zoom in and out of images or web pages, or even play a virtual piano with more than one finger.

Capacitative touchscreens tend to cost more than the resistive touchscreens you’ll find on many cheaper netbook touchscreen kits. It’s not clear at the moment which type of display we’ll see on the upcoming Eee PC T91 and T101H netbooks, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some netbook and notebook makers opting for multi-touch displays like PIXCIR’s in the not too distant future, in order to take advantage of the multi-touch functionality in Windows 7.

You can see a video of the PIXCIR screen in action after the break.

Multi-touch screens for netbooks on the way

Computer maker EETI is reportedly working on 7 and 12 inch touch panels with multi-touch capabilities. What does that mean? It means that the next generation of netbooks (and 12 inch laptops) could include models that not only recognize screen taps, but recognize multiple simultaneous screen taps. Think iPhone, but all over your netbook screen.

Multi-touch panels offer a bunch of advantages over single touch. For example, you can simulate right and left-clicks if you can use more than one finger on the screen. You can also quickly and easily resize or rotate images by pinching, pulling, or spinning your fingers.

There’s no word on which netbook makers will utilize these multi-touch screens. But Asus CEO Jerry Shen has said that some upcoming Eee PC models will support multi-touch.

Lenovo S10 mini-notebook gets all official like

Lenovo is finally ready to talk about its upcoming netbook. The company will soon be releasing a 10 inch laptop called the S10. According to Laptop Magazine, there will be two versions available at launch. The cheaper model will cost just $399 and will come wih 512MB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive. Or for just $50 more you can get 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive.

The keyboard is described as 85 percent the size of a typical laptop keyboard, which should make typing bearable if not necessarily fun. And the S10 trackpad supports those multi-touch features which seems to be all the rage these days.

The S10 should hit the streets in late September, possibly earlier in some parts of the world.

Update: We’ve got more details and some official product images.
