Announcing the winners of the Liliputing Holiday Giveaway

The 2009 Liliputing Holiday Giveaway has now drawn to a close. Over the past few weeks we’ve given away some awesome prizes, and I wanted to thank the sponsors once again: NVIDIA, Asus, GearZap, Ultimate-Netbook, and Lite-On.

And of course, thanks again to everyone who entered. Here’s a list of all the winners, many of whom should already have received their prizes:

If you didn’t win this time, stick around. I’m sure we’ll have more goodies to give away in the year to come.

Liliputing Holiday Giveaway: HP Mini 311 NVIDIA ION powered notebook

The HP Mini 311 is an 11.6 inch laptop with a 1366 x 768 pixel HD display, a low power 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, and NVIDIA ION graphics. Despite the slow CPU, this computer can handle 1080p video playback and 3D graphics acceleration for many modern video games.

The folks at NVIDIA sent me a demo unit to review recently and while I’m still putting the final touches on the review, I got tired of sitting on this piece of good news: NVIDIA has agreed to let me give the demo unit away to a reader once I’m finished testing it.

Here’s how to enter: First read the contest rules, and then leave a comment below telling us what you plan to do with your shiny new HP Mini 311. This contest is open to US residents only, as I have to foot the bill for shipping.

The HP Mini 311 featured in this contest has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and runs Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. While the HP Mini 311 has a starting price of $399.99, a similarly configured model would cost $509.99 from HP.com.

This contest will run through 12:01AM on Tuesday, December 22nd. I can’t promise that the winner will receive the laptop in time for Christmas. In fact, I’m pretty sure you won’t. But we’ll call it a New Year’s present.

Liliputing Holiday Giveaway: 16GB Zune HD

zune hd

Been entering the Liliputing contests for the past two weeks and still haven’t won anything yet? Don’t worry we’ve got one more big prize to giveaway: a slightly used Zune HD portable media player.

NVIDIA sent me this Zune HD to review recently so I could check out the first consumer electronics device to use the NVIDIA Tegra processor. Tegra combines a low power ARM-based CPU with high performance NVDIA graphics capabilities. The end result is a portable media player that can run for 8 hours on a while watching video or more than 30 hours while listening to music. But it also has the oomph to handle 720p H.264 and WMV video playback.

Unfortunately the Zune’s 480 x 272 pixel display can’t actually show all the graphic detail available in those 720p videos. But being able to copy your media collection to a portable device without first transcoding your videos and changing the display resolutions is pretty awesome.

The Zune HD can also play some pretty stunning looking video games, although I really wish there were more apps available in the Zune Marketplace. The hardware definitely could definitely give the iPod Touch a run for its money. But without better support for 3rd party apps, it might be tough to make a case for purchasing this $219 media player over an iPod Touch.

Fortunately you don’t have to worry about that, because I’m giving one away for free. The Zune HD that’s up for grabs is the same one I’ve been testing for the past few weeks. It has the NVIDIA logo laser-etched on the back, and it’s served me well on two 13 hour plane rides.

This contest is open to readers across the globe, although some features of the Zune software such as the Zune Pass subscription media service, are only available in the US. Make sure to read the official contest rules before entering.

The contest will end at 12:01AM Eastern on Wednesday, December 9th.

Liliputing Holiday Giveaway: Lite-On eTAU208 USB DVD burner

etau208 blackThe Lite-On eTAU208 USB DVD/CD Writer is a slim and light disc burner. Best of all, it’s USB powered, which means you don’t need to carry around a separate power cable. Just plug it into your netbook, insert a disc, and the DVD burner powers up.

As someone with a huge USB DVD burner that’s pretty much anchored to my desk, I love being able to just throw a light weight disc drive in my bag when I might need it on the go. The eTAU208 can get a little noisy, and the plastic case feels a little flimsy. But I wouldn’t really expect much more from a portabl DVD burner that sells for as little as $50.

Lite-on sent me an eTAU208 disc drive to review in October, and now that I’m done with it I’m ready to pass it on to one Liliputing reader.

This contest is open to readers anywhere in the world. To enter, first read the official contest rules and then leave a comment below letting me know what you currently do in order to transfer data to and from a netbook without an optical disc drive.

This contest will run through 12:01AM Eastern Time on December 5th.

Liliputing Holiday Giveaway: Asus O!Play HDP-R1 HD media streamer

The Asus O!Play HDP-R1 is a small box that you can stream HD or standard definition video, pictures, and audio to your television set. You plug it into your TV, connect a hard drive or other storage with media via the USB port, and navigate the menus using the included remote control. It’s that easy.

There are two things that set the O!Play HDP-R1 apart from some other media streaming devices on the market. First, it costs less than $100. And second, it has an Ethernet jack that lets you stream media over a home network from a PC or networked attached storage device.

The unit I’m giving away is the same device I reviewed in October. While I’ve been following the firmware updates and other developments related to this device, I have a strict policy of not accepting and keeping any gifts from the companies that I cover at Liliputing. And since Asus doesn’t need me to return this particular unit, I’ve been given the go-ahead to offer it up as a contest prize.

Because I’m footing the bill for shipping and the box is a little heavy, I’m limiting this contest to residents of the United States and Canada. Please read the official contest rules for more information.

You know the drill. In order to enter, leave a short comment below telling me why you deserve to win. The contest closes at 12:01AM Eastern on December 3rd.

Liliputing Holiday Giveaway: Asus CrossLink cable

asus crosslink cable

The Asus CrossLink cable is designed to share data between computers. And when I say data, I don’t just mean you can copy files from one PC to another using the CrossLink Cable. you can also share internet access and optical disc drive functions using this device.

Say, for example, you have a netbook without an optical disc drive but you want to install software that’s only available on a CD. You would plug one end of the CrossLink Cable into your netbook and the other end into a full sized laptop or desktop with a disc drive. You can then use the disc drive on your netbook as if it were plugged directly into the mini-laptop.

You can slo use Folder Link software and the cable to keep folders on two different computers synchronized.

The CrossLink cable also functions as a standalone USB flash drive with 2GB of storage. It’s available for purchase from Amazon for under $40. But Asus will give a CrossLink Cable to one Liliputing reader.

In order to enter, please read the official contest rules and then leave a comment below letting us know what computers you plan to use this cable with. This particular contest is only open to residents of the USA or Canada.

The contest will end at 12:01AM Eastern on November 30th.

Liliputing Holiday Giveaway: Universal car mount from Ultimate-Netbook

universal mount

Car-mounts for netbooks are fascinating things. Add a GPS receiver and your netbook can instantly become a full featured GPS system with an enormous display (by GPS standards). You can also use a mount to plug a netbook into your car audio system and use it as a jukebox, although I’d recommend having the person in the passenger’s seat manage the media player controls.

UK-based retailer Ultimate-Netbook offers a universal car mount that can accommodate netbooks ranging from 7″ to 13″ in size. It normally retails for about $36, but Ultimate Netbook has offered up the universal mount along with a $25 universal netbook car charger with a USB port for the Liliputing Holiday Giveway.

In order to enter, just leave a comment below explaining what you plan to do with this car mount and car charger set. The contest is open to anyone in the world, and I’ll randomly select a winner after the contest closes at 12:01AM Eastern on November 27th.

Make sure to read the official contest rules before entering.

Liliputing Holiday Giveaway

The holiday shopping season has already begun. But why should you have to go out and spend money to get cool new toys? You work hard. Don’t you deserve a freebie? We here at Liliputing certainly thing so, and over the next two weeks we’re going to do our best to help you get something for nothing with a series of holiday gear giveaway contests. Here’s how it works. I’ll be running a series of contests. Each contest will have one prize and one winner. Some of the prizes are leftover goodies that I’ve been sent to review, so they’ll be gently used but generally still pretty awesome. Other contests are sponsored and the winner will receive a shiny new item directly from the sponsoring company. You can enter as many contests as you like, but you can only win once. There will be specific instructions on some of the individual contests, but basically I want to make it as easy as possible to enter and win. That said, the following rules apply to every contest that I’ll be running over the next few eeks:

  • You must be 18 years old to enter.
  • Winners will be chosen randomly.
  • Friends and family members of Brad Linder, Lee Mathews and anyone else directly associated with producing content for Liliputing are prohibited from winning.
  • Shipping charges will be covered, but if you are required to pay taxes on contest winnings where you live, you’ll be responsible for taking care of that on your own.
  • Each contest will have a start time and an end time. If you don’t get your entry in by the end time, you can’t win. Simple as that.
  • By entering, you grant Liliputing permission to publish your name in a roundup of contest winners.

Here are  the contests so far:
