Acer Aspire One to ship “soon” in the US for $350

acer-jr

New York-based retailer J&R has posted product pages for the soon-to-be-released 10.1 inch Acer Asprie One netbook. And despite initial reports that the computer could cost between $400 and $600 overseas, it looks like J&R expects to sell the netbook for just under $350, which makes me feel a lot better about the rumors that Acer could phase out its 8.9 inch netbook and replace it with the new model.

According to J&R, the Acer AOD150 laptops will come in red, white, blue, and black and feature a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g WiFi, a 6-cell battery, and Windows XP Home Edition. They’ll also have 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel displays and new and improved touchpads with the mouse buttons below the pad instead of on the left and right sides.

J&R is taking pre-orders now, and says the laptops are “coming soon.”

thanks Steven!

Eee Box nettop for $270 – One day sale

eee-box-jr

If you’re looking for a good deal on a cheap, low profile desktop computer, or nettop, J&R is selling the Eee Box for $270, today only (Amazon affiliate link). The Eee Box has a list price of $350, and typically sells for between $290 and $320.

Like your typical Eee PC netbook, the Eee Box has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU. It also has 1GB of RAM, an 80GB hard drive, and runs Windows XP. The computer has an 802.11b/g/draft-n WiFi adapter, an Ethernet jack, 4 USB ports, and a DVI output.

The promotion is listed as a “pre-Black Friday” sale. And since there are a few weeks until Thanksgiving, I’m guessing it won’t be the last deal we see before the holidays.

Asus N10 stays in the netbook game with lower price

It looks like the Asus N10 might qualify as a low cost laptop after all. The N10 is the first 10 inch notebook from Asus that doesn’t bear the Eee PC name. It has a few features that set it apart from other netbooks, like an NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS graphics card. And it costs a few bucks more than most netbooks. In fact, earlier this month when J&R posted a pre-order page listing the Asus N10 for $850 I almost decided to stop covering the laptop since the price made it difficult to compare the N10 with a $400 Eee PC or a $329 Acer Aspire One.

But it turns out you’ll be able to pick up an N10 for under $600. That still makes the computer expensive for a netbook, but relatively cheap for a laptop.

J&R has updated its pre-order pages to reflect three different models. The $599 version has a 160GB hard drive, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics, and Windows XP Home. It also has 802.11b/g wireless networking, but lacks the 802.11n support included in the pricier versions.

For another $100, you can get a version with 2GB of RAM, 802.11a/b/g/n support, an HDMI port, a fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, and Windows Vista Home Premium. The priciest model sells for $799 and adds a 250GB hard drive and Windows Vista Business.
