PC maker ii-View has announced it will be bringing its A2 laptop to the US. The ii-View A2 is a 12.1 inch notebook with a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, a 1280 x 800 pixel display. 2GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. it features 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi and a 6 cell battery and runs Windows 7.

We’ve been hearing about the ii-View A2 for the last few months, but honestly I didn’t expect to see it released in the US. But according to a press release, the Hong Kong-based company plans to start shipping the laptop in the US on October 22nd for $399.

iiView A2 reviewed

iiview review babypc

The folks at BabyPC that brought us the first unboxing video the other day of the iiView A2 12 inch laptop that’s now shipping in Australia and parts of Asia, have now published the first detailed review I’ve seen of this mini-laptop.

The iiView A2 has a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display and 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU. It also ships with a pre-release copy of Windows 7 Home Premium, which is rather unusual. BabyPC says the keyboard is comfortable, but it could be a bit larger seeing as there’s plenty of room around the edges.

A lot of people have pointed out that the laptop bears a more than passing resemblance to the Macbook Air. And it looks like iiView wants to emphasize the similarities. The company has preloaded the notebook with a handful of apps including Skype and Google Earth, but also the RocketDock program launcher which looks and feels a lot like the OS X dock.

You can check out BabyPC’s 8 minute hands-on review after the break.

iiView A2 unboxed – Video

iiview babypcYou know that iiView A2 super-thin laptop we spotted a few weeks ago? It turns out it’s real, and the folks at BabyPC managed to snag one. They say it looks more like an Asus Eee PC 1101HA than a MacBook Air, but the iiView A2 has a more powerful 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU.

The laptop also has a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, 2GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. The laptop ships for now with a pre-release copy of Windows 7.

The laptop has a fairly large keyboard and touchpad with a single button underneath. There are 2 USB ports, and a mini-HDMI output, which doesn’t make a whole heck of a lot of sense, since the laptop is saddled with integrated graphics. Perhaps it’s a sign of upgrades to come. There’s also a fairly large access panel on the bottom which may be for upgrading the RAM and/or hard drive.

iiView A2: A netbook in MacBook Air’s clothing

iiview a2

Singapore-based iiView has introduced a mini-laptop that bears a striking resemblance to the thin and light MacBook Air. But on the inside, this 12 inch laptop is pretty much your average everyday netbook, albeit one with a bit of extra RAM and hard drive space, thanks to the inclusion of Windows 7 RC1 or Windows Vista instead of Windows XP.

The iiView A2 has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, and a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display. It also packs a 6 cell battery, and oddly a mini-HDMI port, even though the netbook is saddled with Intel GMA950 graphics, not exactly known for handling HD video with ease.

Like the MacBook Air, the laptop even has flip-out USB ports to help keep the sides of the computer both slim and sleek looking, although if you ask me, this is one of the least useful design decisions that went into the Macbook Air.

The iiView A2 should retail for around $468.
