For some reason Hello Kitty decorated computers seem to be rather trendy in some parts of the globe. And so I probably shouldn’t be surprised to see a Hello kitty nettop. After all, odds are the target market for a computer coated with pink and white decorations and pictures of an adorable cartoon kitty aren’t going to need a quad core processor. But the MiNEW A10 Hello Kitty nettop still ind of caught me off guard.
Under the hood, the nettop is exactly what you’d expect. It has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, and integrated GMA 950 graphics. it also has 4 USB ports, mic, headphone, and line input jacks, and a PS/2 Seria port. The nettop runs Windows XP Home and weighs just 3.96 pounds.
For those looking for a nettop without all the Hello Kitty decorations, the MiNEW A10 also comes in black, white, red, and blue. I’m assuming the Hello Kitty mouse, keyboard, and monitory are sold separately, since I can’t find them on the web site.
I have no reason to believe that the Olevia X10A netbook is ever going to be released in the US. But if it were, it would probably be pretty cheap. It’s selling in Hong Kong for HKD 2800, which is about the equivalent of $360. For that price, you get a netbook with a 10 inch display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1Gb of RAM, a 160Gb hard drive, and 802.11b/g WiFi.
The price doesn’t appear to cover Windows XP or an HSDPA modem, but both options are available.
If the Olevia X10A looks familiar, that’s probably because the Sotec Hello Kitty netbook we looked at a while back is basically a rebranded version of the same laptop.

You know that Hello Kitty-themed netbook we told you about the other day? The folks at Akihabara News got their hands on one and have uploaded some unboxing photos.
The Sotec netbook is choc full of standard netbook components like a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU. But aside from the super cutesy Hello Kitty markings all over the computer, it also comes with a Bluetooth travel mouse, which is a nice bonus.
You know, it’s hard to make a netbook that stands out. Dell decied to throw some fancy stickers on the back of its Inspiron Mini line; BenQ demonstrated that you can stand on the Joybook Lite without breaking it; and Asus just keeps dropping prices and putting out new models. Japan’s Sotec computers is taking a slightly different approach: slather their latest netbook with Hello Kitty decorations.
The Sotec C101K3W sports a 10.1″ 1024 x 600 pixel display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 120Gb hard drive. It also has a Hello Kitty design on the cover and ships with a special Hello Kitty wallpaper.
Probably the most surprising thing about the Sotec mini-notebook is that it isn’t the first Hello Kitty-themed netbook. You can pick up a Medion Akoya Mini (which is a rebranded MSI Wind U100) in Europe with a Hello Kity cover for 379 Euros.
Aside from the silly decorations, the Sotec netbook looks like a pretty decent machine. it weighs in at 1.2kg or about 2.6 pounds and measures 265mm x 185mm x 31mm or about 10.3″ x 7.3″ x 1.2″ It has an 802.11b/g WiFi module, runs Windows XP and comes with OpenOffice.org, Firefox, and Skype preloaded. There’s another picture showing the Hello Kitty cover after the break.

European laptop distributor Medion has decided to redecorate the Medion Akoya Mini (which is just another rebranded MSI Wind U100 netbook) and slap a higher price tag on the computer. So what does the extra 110 Euros buy you? Either a Hello Kitty decoration or a lid with Swarovski crystals in the shape of a butterfly.
Seriously. That’s it. Under the cover, this netbook is identical to the original Medion Akoya Mini or MSI Wind U100. It’s got a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and a 10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display. It has the same measurements and weight. But it sells for 479 Euros, while you can pick up a basic Akoya Mini for 379 Euros.
I understand that Medion isn’t the only company looking to charge a higher price for “fashionable” netbooks. But at least the Asus Eee PC S101 is thinner and lighter than the Eee PC 1000H, even if it offers the same performance. For all intents and purposes, Medion is charging 30% more for exactly the same machine.
