Asus Eee PC 1005PR product page goes live (HD display)

The Eee PC 1005PR is the first 10 inch netbook from Asus with a high resolution 1366 x 768 pixel display. It was first spotted at CeBIT in Germany last week, but now Asus has posted an official product page for the mini-laptop.

Here’s a rundown of the specs:

  • Display: 10.1″ 1366 x 768 pixels
  • Graphics: GMA 3150 + Broadcom BCM 70015 HD video accelerator
  • CPU: 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450
  • OS: Windows 7 Starter Edition
  • Memory: 1GB (Max: 2GB)
  • Storage: 250GB HDD (plus 500GB Asus WebStorage)
  • Connectivity: 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, Ethernet
  • I/O: VGA, mic, headphone, SDHC card slot, 3 USB ports
  • Battery:Two options: 6 cell, 63Whr or 6 cell, 48Whr
  • Dimensions: 10.3″ x 7″ x 1.4″
  • Weight: 2.8

No word on pricing yet, but the Eee PC 1005PR should be available in April. And by all appearances, the netbook is virtually identical to the Eee PC 1005PE in most respects. The two key differences are the high resolution display at the Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator, both of which are likely to drive up the price. My guess is that we’ll see this model selling for about $50 more than a standard Asus Eee PC 1005PE.

Asus Eee PC 1005PR sports an HD display

What do you get when you take an Asus Eee PC 1005PE netbook and swap out the 1024 x 600 pixel display for a higher resolution 1366 x 768 pixel display? Apparently you get an Asus Eee PC 1005PR. The company is showcasing a netbook with this model number at CeBIT in Germany this week.

Other than the display, the netbook appears to be virtually identical to the Asus Eee PC 1005PE. It has the same 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor with GMA 3150 graphics, 1GB of RAM, and 250GB hard drive. It also has 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 6 cell battery (with both 48Whr and 63Whr versions available).

There is a mention of “upscaled video performance with TotalMedia Theatre support,” which probably means that the computer comes with a Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerator as well.

No word on the price or release date.

HP Mini 5102 now fully customizable (for a price)

Want an HP Mini 5102 with a high definition display, SUSE Linux, and a 128G SSD? You can now officially order that configuration through the HP website. You’d just best be prepared to pay $868.

In fact, you can now customize the HP Mini 5102 business-class netbook any way you want. Unfortunately, the lowest priced model (with SUSE Linux, a 160GB hard drive, and 1024 x 600 pixel display) will set you back $518, which is about $119 more than the price of the lowest Smart Buy configuration (as of next week).

A top-of-the-line configuration could easily run well over $1000.

Here are some of the configuration options available:

  • OS: Choice of Windows 7 Starter, Win 7 Pro, Win XP Home, SUSE Linux 11, or FreeDOS
  • Display: 1024 x 600 pixels, 1366 x 768 pixels, or 1024 x 600 pixel touchscreen (there is no HD touchscreen option)
  • Graphics: Optional Broadcom HD Video Decoder card
  • RAM: 1GB to 2GB
  • Storage: 160GB/250GB/320GB 7200RPM HDD or 80GB/128GB SSD
  • Wireless: Optional Bluetooth 2.1, choice of 802.11a/b/g/n or 802.11b/g/n
  • 3G: Optional Gobi 2000 mobile broadband card with GPS
  • Battery: 4 cell, 29Whr or 6 cell, 66Whr
  • Colors: Red, blue or black lids

The optional handle attachment costs $30. I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s probably worth pointing out that the handle is not designed to be user-removable. If you order the netbook with the handle, it stays attached all the time.

Unfortunately it looks like you’re going to have to shell out some extra cash if you want the touchscreen or an HD display. Those options won’t be made available in any Smart Buy configurations that I’m aware of.

thanks tlove!

Asus Japan introduces Eee PC 1005HR with HD screen

1005hr

Asus practically invented the netbook category two years ago, and the company’s been busy pumping out 7, 9, 10, and 11.6 inch mini-laptops ever since. But while the Eee PC 1005HA is one of the most popular netbooks on the market today, there’s one feature it lacks that you can find in some competing products from companies including Dell, HP, and Lenovo: a high resolution display.

But it looks like that’s about to change, at least in Japan. Asus Japan has announced a new version of the 1005HA called the Eee PC 1005HR. The netbook will feature a 10.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display along with your usual Eee PC specs including a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/n WiFI, Bluetooth 2.1, and 0.3MP webcam. This model will run Windows 7 Starter Edition and it will come with a 6 cell, 8.5 hour battery.

The Eee PC 1005HR should be available in Japan in November for 49,800 yen, or about $547. It will probably be cheaper if and when it ever gets released in the US.
