FIV Daria SVE00 hits th eFCC

Remember that funny looking FIC netbook that we spotted the other day? The one with a lid that’s smaller than the base of the notebook? It looks like it could be headed to the US soon. The FCC has published a series of documents related to the FIC Daria SVE00.

I’m still guessing that the netbook will be rebranded and sold under a different name if and when it does hit the streets in the US. But now we have a few more photos to look at.

Here’s a refresher on the spectacularly ordinary specs: 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and optional Bluetooth, WiMAX, or 3G. it features a VGA port, SIM card slot, 4-in-1 card reader, and 2 USB ports. The computer has a 3 cell battery and weighs 2.6 pounds.

FIC introduces SVE00 Pine Trail netbook in Taiwan

On paper, the FIC SVE00 netbook loos pretty much like any other recent model. It has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, a 10.1 inch. 1024 x 600 pixel display. 1GB of RAM, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and the usual array of ports. It comes with a 3 cell, 4 hour battery and optional Bluetooth, WiMax, and 3.5G connections.

But aesthetically, there’s something a bit odd about this netbook. It has a large case that could easily accommodate a larger keyboard and display. The netbook measures about 11.2″ x 8.5″ x 1″, making it one of the bulkiest 10 inch netbooks I’ve seen. At 2.6 pounds though, it’s not much heavier than a typical netbook.

The FIC SVE00 can accommodate a 2.5 inch hard drive or SSD and supports HDDs up to 500GB or SSDs up to 32GB. The laptop is available with Windows 7 or Linux.

FIC pushes netbook boundaries with a 10.4 inch mini-note

fic-netbook

Update: As Jean-François Thamie of Netbook 3G points out, the FIC user manual actually says this netbook has a 10.1 inch display. In other words, there’s nothing particularly unusual or noteworthy about this netbook. Or at least nothing I can see. Maybe that will change when the laptop comes to market.

I’ve often contended that notebooks with 12 inch displays, while very cool, don’t quite fit in the netbook category. By their very nature they’re just not as portable as a machine with a 10.2 inch or smaller display and they’re typically not as light weight either. But what about a 10.4 inch screen? I think I’ll go ahead and shoehorn that in the loosely defined netbook category because come on, really… it’s .2 inches.

Anyway, First International Computer is apparently building something that looks a lot like a netbook with a 10.4 inch display. The company has filed documents with the FCC indicating that the upcoming machine will feature a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, a 2.5″ SATA II HDD, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, up to 2GB of RAM, an ExspressCard slot, and a VGA output. It will also sport a 10.4 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display.

First International Computer is a contrat PC maker, which means we probably won’t see these netbooks under the FIC name. Instead, a computer make you may or may not have heard of could place an order with FIC and slap their own name on the product.

FIC CW0A1: Another generic liliputer coming tomorrow?

Contract PC maker FIC will be introducing a subnotebook at Computex that looks a lot like a VIA Nanobook or OpenBook, but which will sport an Intel Atom CPU. Odds are you won’t see this computer hitting store shelves with the FIC name anytime soon. FIC makes computers which are then sold by major computer distributors with names that you’ve actually heard of.

Here’s what we know about the FIC CW0A1 so far. It’s got an 8.9 inch 1024 x 600 pixel LCD screen, an Intel Atom CPU, and weighs less than 1 kilgram. There’s also optional support for WiMAX.
