Asus Eee PC T91MT reviewed

t91mt kubel

The other day Kubel at MyT91.info posted some photos and first impressions of the new Eee PC T91MT touchscreen netbook. Now that he’s had a few days to play with it, he’s posted a detailed review.

This model features an 8.9 inch multitouch display, a 32GB solid state disk, and a 1.33GHz Intel atom Z520 processor. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium. Kubel impressed with the build quality, which he says is pretty much the same as for the Eee PC T91 that was released a few months ago with Windows XP and a single-input touchscreen.

In addition to having a multitouch display, Kubel notest hat the screen looks better when viewed from an angle than the earlier model. He says it’s also less glossy than the original display.

On the down side, it appears that the multitouch screen is really a 2-touch screen. It recognizes up to 2 inputs, but no more. So don’t expect any applications designed to let you play piano or perform other activities requiring up to 10 fingers at once.

Kubel was also underwhelmed by the 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor and GMA 500 graphics, which generally don’t feel as responsive as the faster 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270/GMA 950 chipset found in most netbooks.

For more details, make sure to check out Kubel’s extensive review.

Asus Eee PC T91MT touchscreen tablet includes updated multitouch software

t91mt

As I mentioned the other day, the new multitouch version of the Eee PC T91 is now shipping. The netbook has an 8.9 inch touchscreen display and it can be used either in laptop or tablet mode. There are three major differences between the new model and the version that’s been available with Windows XP for the last few months:

  1. It supports multitouch gestures.
  2. There’s a 32GB solid state disk instead of 16GB.
  3. The new model ships with Windows 7 Home premium.

Asus also apparently updated its Touch

But what do those changes mean in terms of real world usage? Kubel at MyT91.info already got his hands on the new model, and he’s posted a series of photos, some initial impressions, and the Asus demo video of the computer’s new and updated Touch Gate software. You can check out the video after the break, but here’s the nutshell version: It’s nearly identical to the earlier software except it supports a pinching to zoom in the photo application.

Asus Eee PC T91MT multitouch netbook/tablet now available for pre-order

asus t91mt amz

Asus is starting to roll out an updated version of the Eee PC T91 touchscreen convertible netbook. Like the unit I reviewed a few months ago, the new model is powered by a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor and includes an 8.9 inch touchscreen display that can be folded down over the keyboard for use in tablet mode. But there are three things that set the new Eee PC T91MT apart from the earlier model:

  1. It runs Windows 7 Home Premium
  2. The touchscreen supports multitouch gestures
  3. The solid state disk has been upgraded from 16GB to 32GB

As with a number of other new Asus laptops, the company is offering Eee PC T91MT customers 500GB of free online storge.

You can pre-order the Eee PC T91MT from Amazon for $549. The laptop has a non-removable battery which Asus says is good for up to 5 hours, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and supports up to 2GB of RAM, (although it ships with just 1GB).

Asus Eee PC T91MT multi-touch convertible netbook on its way

t91mt

I have to say, Asus has the strangest ways of accidentally announcing upcoming products. The company hasn’t officially announced the 12 inch Eee PC 1201N with NVIDIA ION graphics yet, but it showed up on a Chinese retail web site the other day. Today European stores began listing the Eee PC 1001HA which appears to be a special edition Eee PC 1005HA. And just now I noticed drivers on the Asus support page for an Eee PC T91MT.

If the leaked product roadmap that hit the web last month (and a demo unit spotted at Computex this summer) are anything to go by, the MT stands for multitouch, which means this version of the convertible tablet style netbook will probably be released in late October or early November after Windows 7 is launched. And it will probably run Windows 7 Home Premium, since Windows 7 Starter doesn’t include all the multitouch features found in Home Premium.

The only download available for the Eee PC T91MT right now is a BIOS file. There’s nothing really juicy like a user manual yet. But if you’re waiting for this updated model with baited breath, you might want to bookmark the support page.
