Beautify an Eee PC with Swarovski Crystals, win an Eee PC

s101-bling

I’m not a huge fan of netbooks wearing bling, nor am I a fan of customizing a computer for Valentine’s Day (what do you do with it for the other 364 days of the year?) But Asus Hong Kong is holding a contest where you can win a netbook by bedazzling a virtual Eee PC S101 with fake Swarovski Cyrstals.

First price is an Eee PC S101,  second prize is an Eee PC 1002HA, and the third runner up gets an Eee PC 900HA. A few more folks will get a netbook case. Visitors can vote on the netbook designs they like the best. It appears you can only win if you’re in Hong Kong. But if decorating netbook covers is your thing, you can still participate.

The Winner of the Notebooks.com/Liliputing netbook giveaway is…

… Rose Okeson.

Rose contributed three articles to the Notebooks.com wiki, (the randomly selected prize-winning entry was on the Sylvania G netbook) and will be receiving a shiny new Lenovo IdeaPad S10 netbook.

We had some excellent submissions as part of this contest. You can find them all in the contest thread in the Liliputing Forums.

And if you haven’t won a Liliputing contest yet, don’t worry. We’ve got at least one more scheduled to start before the end of the year.

HP Magic Giveaway: A closer look at some of the prizes

dragon-mini

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, Liliputing has teamed up with HP and Microsoft to give away $6000 worth of prizes including an HP Mini 1000 netbook and an HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook, both of which are pictured above. If you don’t spot the netbook right away, that’s because it’s the tiny bump on the HDX keyboard.

I took this picture to show you just how big the notebook is and just how small the netbook is. And because I just love taking things out of boxes, playing with them, and putting them back in.

The HDX 18 is pretty much everything a netbook isn’t. It’s big, heavy, and super-powerful. It has an 18.4″ 1920 x 1080 pixel display,  a Blu-Ray drive, a 2.26GHz Intel Core Duo CPU, 4GB of RAM and 500GB of hard drive capacity. It’s even got a built in TV tuner which works with Windows Vista Media Center or the included HP multimedia software. It’s a pretty awesome notebook, but lacks the portability that you’ll get from the HP Mini 1000.

For more info on how to win this prize, check out the official contest announcement.

And remember, 49 other web sites are holding contests as well. You can find a complete list on the HP Magic Giveaway site.

HP Magic GiveAway update

hp-magic-bundle

I just had a visit from a friendly FedEx driver who was kind enough to drop off $6,000 in gear from HP and Microsoft. Unfortunately, I don’t get to keep it. Instead I’ll be reviewing the HP Mini 1000 netbook over the next few days and maybe some of the other items in the bundle and then next week I’ll be launching a contest where one lucky Liliputing reader can win the whole bundle of hardware and software, which includes:

  • HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC with Windows
  • HP HDX 18 series Premium Notebook PC with Windows
  • HP MediaSmart Connect
  • HP Pavilion dv4-1145go Entertainment Notebooks with Windows
  • HP Mini 1000 series with Windows
  • HP Photosmart C6380 Wireless AIO
  • HP 564 Series Photo Value Pack
  • Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007
  • Corel VideoStudio X2
  • Kung Fu Panda widescreen DVDs

Don’t forget, 50 blogs are participating in this promotion, which means you have 50 chances to win. And while my contest won’t begin until next week, a number of sites have already begun their promotions. Check out the HP Magic GiveAway site for more details.

Eee PC 900 hits UK today

Asus has officially launched the Eee PC 900 in the UK today. The next generation Eee PC model will carry a suggested price tag of £329, which is about $647 US, but computers tend to cost a bit more east of the Atlantic.

It looks like you can already order the Eee PC 900 from a handful of online stores that serve the UK. Asus is also running a promotion in the UK, giving contestants a chance to win an Eee PC 701 with Windows, or upgrade from their existing Eee PC 701 to an Eee PC 900 for free.
