Buffalo adds to its lineup of little things with tiny MicroSD card reader

Like tiny computers? Then you might like other tiny things, like tiny USB peripherals. And nobody’s making them smaller than Buffalo these days. The company put out a ridiculously small 16GB USB them drive in June. And now Buffalo has announced a MicrosSD card reader that’s about the size of a MicroSD card, which is to say, really small.

The USB MicroSD card reader barely sticks out from your USB port, and can handle a standard MicroSD card. The reader also has 16GB of built in storage, which kind of makes me wonder why you’d really need to insert removable media, you know, unless you wanted to copy some data from your camera or something.

The only down side is that this little guy comes at a price. Geek Stuf 4U is taking pre-orders for ¥15,500, or about $159 US.

Buffalo 16GB thumb drive might be the smallest ever

buffalo 16gb thumb key

Looking for a USB thumb drive to add a bit of storage to your netbook, but don’t want that sticks out two or three inches from your netbook and sort of looks like it’s asking to fall out or break off when you accidentally bump it? Buffalo’s latest USB flash drive holds is just 5mm thick.

Seriously, I’ve seen SD card that protrude further from netbooks than this 16GB flash drive.

It looks like the Buffalo 16G thumb key will be available in late June (so any day now) for ¥12,980 or about $135. It’s not exactly the cheapest 16GB flash drive around, but it’s very likely the smallest.

Buffalo offers external enclosure for Eee PC 901 SSD

buffalo-external-ssd

Buffalo has been selling 32GB and 64GB solid state disks that you can use to replace the low capacity disks that come with netbooks like the Asus Eee PC 901 for a while. Now the company is going a step further by offering a USB enclosure for its line of Eee PC 901 SSDs.

The idea is that you can plug in the USB module and copy an image of your internal SSD to the new module before swapping it out. When you’re done, you can keep your old 16GB SSD as extra storage by sticking it into the enclosure.

The enclosures should be available for 12,700 yen or about $130 with a 32GB SSD or a 62GB SSD for 22,400 yen or about $228 in April. It’s not clear if they’ll be sold in the US.

Buffalo to release SSDs for Dell Inspiron Mini 9

buffalo-dell-mini-9Buffalo offers 32G and 64GB solid state disks designed for the Asus Eee PC 900 and 901. Now the company has annonuced plans to release SSDs built for the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 as well.

The new disks will be available in 16GB and 32GB capacities, and will be priced at about $57 and $101 respectively. Buffalo will initially sell the modules in Japan, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the company give these disks a wider release sometime down the road. If not, I’m sure you’ll be able to find them at online retailers that make a habit of shipping Japanese products worldwide, like Conics or Dynamism.
