Asus to bring NVIDIA ION-powered all-in-ones stateside

et2203 and friendsAsus has announced plans to bring the 20 inch Eee Top all-in-one computer with NVIDIA graphics spotted in France last week to the US. But wait, there’s more! If you act now, you can also get a 22 inch model.

The Asus Eee Top ET2002 will come in two models, both with 20 inch displays. The ET2002 will hae a standard display, while the ET2002T will have a touchscreen. Both models will have dual core Intel Atom 330 processors and NVIDIA ION graphics as well as 2GB of RAM, 320GB hard drives and Super Multi disc burners. They’ll include 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a whole slew of I/O ports including HDMI input and a total of 6 USB ports.

The Asus ET2203T will feature a 22 inch widescreen, touchscreen display, an Intel Core Duo processor and ATI Radeon HD 4570 graphics. This model seems more like the company’s answer to the HP TouchSmart series of high-end all-in-one media center machines than a typical nettop. The ET2203T will also have a Blu-Ray drive.

You can read more about all three models in the official product announcement.

Deal of the Day: Asus Eee Top all-in-one PC for $480

eee_top_blackThe other day when I published a review of the Asus Eee Top all-in-one computer, I mentioned that you could pick one up from Amazon for $500. Now several stores including Amazon and Newegg are selling the Eee Top for just $479.99.

What you get for that price is a desktop computer with a 15.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel touchscreen display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and a wired mouse and keyboard. It’s certainly not the most powerful desktop PC you can find, but the whole thing comes in a nice compact package and it makes an excellent kitchen PC or a passable office computer if you don’t need advanced graphics performance.

Amazon has the black model for $479.99 with free shipping. Or you can get the same price from Newegg for the white or black models.

Asus Eee Top ET1602 review

eee-top-side-1

The Asus Eee Top isn’t a netbook. But this all-in-one desktop computer shares many of the design elements of one. It has a low power, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU; it lacks an optical disc drive; and with a price between $500 and $600, it’s far cheaper than most other all-in-one desktops with touchscreen displays (not that there’s a ton of competition in this space yet). But do those design choices make sense for a desktop computer as they do for an ultraportable device like a netbook?

Yes and no.

You can certainly buy a desktop computer that’s both cheaper and more powerful. But there aren’t many that offer a touchscreen display and an all-in-one design, with the monitor, motherboard, and other components all in one package. I’ve been using the Eee Top ET1602 as my primary work computer for the past week, and 90% of the time it does everything I need it to do. But every now and then it chokes up when I forget it’s a low powered computer and not a hard core multimedia machine. The Eee Top is certainly going to appeal to some people. But it’s not for everybody.
