Acer Ferrari One now available in the US for $600

acer ferrari one press shotI’ve been seeing pictures of the Acer Ferrari One 11.6 inch laptop for so long that I almost didn’t notice that it wasn’t available in the US. But it turns out that it wasn’t… until today.

The Ferrai One features a similar keyboard and form factor to Acer’s Timeline series of 11.6 inch laptops. But the Ferrari One has a more angular red lid with a Ferrari logo emblazoned on it. The computer also offers a bit more oomph in the graphics department than the Acer Aspire 1810T and other Timeline-branded notebooks. While those models have Intel CULV processors and integrated graphics, the Acer Ferrari One has a 1.2GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 CPU and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics.

The laptop also features a 6 cell battery, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth. It packs 4GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and Acer says it should get up to 5 hours of battery life.

The Acer Ferrari One weighs 3.3 pounds and it’s available for pre-order from Amazon for $599.99.

Acer Ferrari One laptop captured on video

ferrari one

Most of the time when you spot the Ferrari brand name on a product, you can be pretty certain it’s going to cost you a pretty penny. Not that the cars, or souped up computers and other devices that bear the name aren’t worth the money. They generally pack in some features you won’t find on cheaper products. But they’re not exactly low cost. And that’s why the Acer Ferarri One laptop confuses me a little. This little 11.6 inch laptop packs a bit more horsepower than your typical netbook. But at $499, it’s not really that expensive, and it’s also pretty underpowered for a premium ultraportable.

The laptop has a dual core 1.2GHz AMD Athlon X2 L310 CPU which helps set it apart from the crowd. But while it should offer better performance than a single core Intel Atom chip, it’s not exactly a blazing fast CPU. The computer also has a port for an external graphics card, which is rather unusual. It has ATI Radeon 3200 graphics built in, but if you need a boost, I guess it’s nice to know you can plug in a supported external card.

Xavier from Notebooks.com got a closer look at the Acer Ferrari One and shot a brief video which you can check out after the break.

Acer introdues Ferrari laptop with AMD Congo CPU

acer ferrari oneRemember that next generation AMD platform for ultrathin notebooks I was telling you about yesterday? It looks like Acer’s already showing off one of the first laptops to use the new chip. The Acer Ferrari One packs a dual core 1.2GHz AMD Athlon X2 L310 processor and ATI Radeon 3200 graphics.

The laptop can handle 1080p video and other hardware video acceleration tasks. The laptop has an 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel display, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth, and optional HSDPA. It packs a 6 cell, 5600mAh battery and runs Windows 7. It should be available in Europe for about 499 Euros on October 22nd. That’s about $727 US.

Oh yeah, and the laptop features a shiny red Ferrari themed lid. The keyboard looks virtually identical to the one on the Acer Aspire 1410, although the touchpad area has some decorative changes including a single mouse button with the word Ferrari emblazoned across it.
