While Asus isn't ready to show off its upcoming all-in-one PC just yet, the company did show a few tantalizing images of the "Eee Monitor" at Computex.

If you think the Eee Monitor looks an awful lot like an iMac, you're not alone. But there's one major difference: The Eee Monitor will have a starting price near $500, which is less than half the price of an iMac. Of course, Asus will only be able to achieve that relatively low price by packing the Eee Monitor with cheaper components, a slower processor, and possibly less RAM and storage.

The Eee Monitor is scheduled for a September release, and will come in 19 and 21 inch models. Some units may have a built-in TV tuner, although I'm guessing you'll have to pay a few bucks extra for that feature. And if history tells us anything, we can probably expect the Eee Monitor to be available in Windows and Linux flavors.

Word on the street, (and by Street, I mean The Inquirer) is that Asus is set to officially unveil its first desktop computer to get the Eee PC-branding treatment at Computex next week. The new PC will reportedly be called the EBOX, and like it's Eee PC laptop cousins, it will be rather tiny. Like, make the Nintendo Wii look kind of big, tiny.

The computer will have a 160GB hard drive, 2Gb of RAM, and will run the same custom version of Xandros Linux you can find on the Eee PC laptop series. I'm going to assume you'll also be able to order a Windows XP version for a few extra bucks.

Trusted Reviews is reporting that the Asus Eee PC we first heard about earlier this year will be available in mid-July. This comes from one anonymous source, so take it with a grain of salt. But that source says the Eee PC desktop will be available in black and white, and may or may not use the upcoming Intel Atom CPU.

No word on the price tag or what operating systems the PCs will run.

The Eee PC 900 with the 8.9 inch display isn't even shipping in most companies yet, but Asus is already looking ahead and planning at least two new models in the Eee PC line. We've known for a while that Asus was planning to launch an Eee PC with a 10 inch screen, but now it looks like the company's also hoping to bring an 11 inch version to market.

Honestly, at 11 inches, I'm not sure you can still call the Eee PC an ultraportable. It'll just be a small notebook. And since Asus is selling the Eee PC 900 with the 8.9 inch screen for $549, I assume it's safe to say the larger unit will set you back a few bucks more, which means it'd be hard to consider the 11 inch version low cost either. On the one hand, it makes sense for Asus to stretch its most recognizable brand. On the other hand, the name Eee PC has come to be associated with low cost, lightweight machines. These future plans seem more like brand dilution than brand promotion to me.

On yet another hand (yeah, I know, most folks only have two, but bear with me here), "Eee" stands for easy to learn, easy to work, easy to play. And if Asus wants to promote the ease of use of the Eee PC over the whole portability thing, then this move does make some sense. After all, the company had previously announced plans to release a desktop computer, and even a television set under the Eee name.
