Lenovo launched a series of new IdeaPad laptops today. That includes a new IdeaPad Z-Series line of 13 to 15 inch multimedia laptops with prices starting at $649 and several new models in the company’s thin and light U-series. The one I’m most interested in is the Lenovo IdeaPad U160, which has an 11.6 inch display, weighs about 3 pounds, and measure 0.9 inches thick.

At $699 and up, The IdeaPad U160 is a bit pricier than the Lenovo IdeaPad U150 I reviewed a few months ago. But it packs a bit more power, thanks to the new Intel Core i-series processor options. The IdeaPad U160 will be available with a choice of Intel Celeron, Pentium, Core i3, i5, or i7 processors with speeds ranging from 1.06GHz to 1.2GHz. The computer will also come with a choice of Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Home Basic, and Windows 7 Home Premium.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U160 supports up to 4GB of RAM and will be available with a 250GB, 320GB, or 500GB hard drive. The laptop has 802.11b/g or 802.11b/g/n WiFi options, optional Bluetooth, and optional 3G connectivity.

The computer comes standard with 3 USB ports, an eSATA port, a 5-in-1 flash card reader, mic, headphone, VGA, and HDMI ports. It has a 1366 x 768 pixel display and 1.3MP webcam.

With a 3 cell batter, the IdeaPad U160 weighs 2.76 pounds. The 6 cell battery adds a little heft, but still brings the total weight to just 3.09 pounds. Lenovo says you should be able to expect up to 7 hours of run time with a 6 cell battery, or half that with the 3 cell version.

The notebook measures 11.4″ x 7.5″ x 0.9″.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U160 should be available in June.

  1. I ordered one a week or so ago still waiting for them to ship it.. once i ahve it .. i can answer all your questions.. :o)

  2. Looks nice. Any idea if this will have anything better than Intel integrated graphics?

  3. We’re finally getting the sort of netbooks we deserved five months ago.

I guess better late then never given the industry pundits are having kittens trying to lick Apple’s butt with stories like this: https://mashable.com/2010/05/06/ipad-netbook-market/

I like how the above article makes the Y-axis on their charts make it appear like netbooks have had a 600% drop in sales. Nice use of Year Over Year data made to look like Total Sales…classic!

  4. It does seem that netbook, notebook, and laptop designs this year have been significantly stepped up, and it’s about time.

  5. I like the weight/power of the u160. The .9″ thickness with a 6 cell battery is too good to be true (probably .9″ with 4 cell battery).

I agree about the keyboard, it’s the same one that’s in the Thinkpad Edge and it has already gotten rave reviews.

  6. I’m liking the use of their new chicklet style keyboard, it looks like it would be a pretty good experience to type on.
