stantum slate pc

Stantum’s Slate is interesting – though it doesn’t excite me the way the original enthusiast Dell Mini mod does. Those who aren’t so DIY inclined, however, may be interested in checking out the Slate.

Thanks to Netbooked, we’ve got a video you can check out after the break. Netbooked also mentions Stantum’s ambitions to produce touch-enabled devices in a wide range of screen sizes – from 2.5″ all the way up to 32″.

I can’t help but think that for the Slate to do well in retail it will have to be priced aggressively. The Gigabyte T1028X is selling for $668, and it sports a larger 6-cell battery, 250GB hard drive, and a full keyboard. The Slate’s Mini 10 internals are a step down – and the lack of a keyboard is something that would drive me nuts on a 10″ device.

In action, the Slate does look like fun. It’s not ready for production yet, of course, so we’ll have to wait before passing final judgement on things like price and components. What price point would make the Slate interesting to you? Personally, I don’t think I’d go beyond $399.

Honestly that thing is way more impressive than any netvertible out at the moment. They could even make a portable keyboard to go with it.

Can you ask about palm rejection? What do they expect the battery life to be?
  • Looks nice, but screen is resistive so would have a lot of scratches when daily used. For me capasitive is better for durability.
