kmart black friday

In the market for a netbook, but don’t feel like spending the money on one that runs Windows, Linux, or you know, a desktop operating system designed for laptops rather than phones? KMart will offer the Delstar 7 inch netbook on Black Friday for $119.99.

The machine runs Windows CE and has a 400MHz ARM-based CPU, 128MB of RAM and 2GB of flash storage.

The Delstar netbook does have the usual array of connectivity options including 802.11b/g WiFi, 3 USB ports, and mic and headphone jacks. It has a 3 cell battery and weighs less than 2 pounds.

What the machine lacks in power, it makes up in being really friggin cheap. But as the ad indicates, it will only be available at that price for 5 hours, from 6:00 to 11:00Am on the day after Thanksgiving.

As they say, "You get what you are willing to get trampled for by red-necks outside of a Kmart on Black Friday." (What? You have never heard that 'ol chestnut' before?) I just don't think a Win CE machine is worth getting punched in the face by another shopper for...but that's just me.

Looks a lot like the "Alpha 400" one that Geeks.com frequently sells with Linux on it for 30 bucks more with (ancient versions of) Firefox and Skype. Not really a deal worth staying up all night for.
  • Yeah, for 30 bucks I'll skip the Black Friday Walmart crowds :-)

Nice to know there's somebody else that needs to stay up all night to get there at six ;-)

Yeah, I figured most of those sales would have people lining up at like 3 or 4, but any way you cut it, if it's before about 9am I won't be getting any sleep.

Same here. I've always felt the same about these sales as MonkeyKing, but last year, on a whim, I went to one: up all night, got there about 5:30 AM, in line for an hour, but got a good deal on an HDTV.

There is going to be a lot of disappointed people when they get this thing home, or even worse... Christmas morning.

    Brad:

Wouldn't the Acer Aspire One at OfficeMax on Black Friday for $149.99 be a much better value?

  • K-Mart should sell alot of them at that price; IMO.

I'm going to buy this netbook, despite the fact that I am a Mac snob. I was planning to invest $400 in a Toshiba mini just so I could cart it to work and check email without going on my company's computer. But why pay 400 bucks for an inferior PC when $120 will do just fine. For checking email and a little web browsing, it seems like a good deal. And I live in Philly, where pretty much anything you're carrying on you will be stolen at some point. Rather lose $120 than 400 or my $2,000 Mac!
