Looks very similar to the Acer Aspire Timeline 1810T (US). Peter clearly prefers the Lenovo though if you watch his followup videos.

This appears to have a better keyboard layout (comparing US versions), e.g. the cursor controls aren't quite as shrunk down since they gave them an extra half row to expand down into. Also the keys appear to be a more normal shape here (top smaller than bottom) unlike the Acer that has more "chicklet" style keys, though without the islanding so it might be a little error prone. Sounds like the Acer's keyboard is a little wider though.

The trackpad is apparently VERY good on the Lenovo, according to Peter Cartwright (netbooked)'s follow-up video. So better than the Acer's.

The dimensions on the Acer are 285 (W) x 204 (D) x 22.1-30 (H) mm while this is apparently 291.8 x 192.4 x 24.0-34.3 mm so within a fraction of an inch on width and depth, and this one is a little thicker, presumably only going over an inch with the extra battery bump included.

The Lenovo in the video is running an SU2300 dual core at 1.2GHz. The Acer's available in the US (on Amazon anyway) have SU4100 dual cores at 1.3GHz. The 4100 also has 2MB of cache vs 1MB in the 2300. So the Acer will be faster. They'll be within spitting distance of each other though.

Both have 802.11n. Both have VGA & HDMI. Both can handle 8GB of RAM (Lenovo comes with 2GB, Acer with 3GB). Both have the Intel 4500MHD GPU. The Lenovo comes with a 250GB drive, the Acer with 320GB (both 5400rpm). Both support multi-touch gestures on the trackpad. Both have gigabit Ethernet.

Looks like the 6-cell battery sticks out more on the Lenovo.

Peter seems to think the build quality on the Lenovo is better.

Both SUPPORT bluetooth, although the models of the Acer that are generally available in the US don't have it.

The Lenovo apparently has easy access to the expansion slots, and a free mini-PCIe slot. Haven't heard one way or another about the Acer.

The Acer's speakers are apparently pretty weak. Peter says the ones on the Lenovo are very good.

Sounds like the Lenovo is the winner here. Have to see what the pricing looks like when its actually available and confirm all the details are the same...

I still prefer my HP Mini 311 with Full ION (hacked of course). The processor is faster but no graphics support worth a damn? I have yet to choke out my HP Mini 311 on any task I need it for. I am not running photoshop. Just switch configurations and office apps and farting around online like most people will be doing and its great.

It looks pretty similar, but I don't think the Aspire 1410 has Bluetooth.

Hum. On the Japanese Lenovo site there doesn't seem to be a way to order any of the Ideapad U series laptops. I really want to see if the compare chart is accurate and if this laptop can be upgraded to a dedicated graphics card.

Played with the Vaio X and it is super slow with its crappy Atom.
