Update: I’m going to call false alarm on this. Upon further inspection, I think it’s likely that the tip was indicating that the NVIDIA ION option wouldn’t be available until this fall. That doesn’t mean the S12 will be delayed. It just means that you’ll be stuck with integrated graphics if you order yours early.
Lenovo may have begun taking pre-orders for the IdeaPad S12 laptop yesterday, but Netbook News is reporting that the notebook won’t actually begin shipping until October. Laptop Magazine got a chance to check out an early build of the notebook today, and confirms that at least the NVIDIA ION version won’t be available until this fall.
The Lenovo IdeaPad S12 features a 12 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display, an Intel Atom CPU, and at least some versions will have the NVIDIA ION chipset, which bundles an Atom CPU with an NVIDIA graphics processor for better video and graphics performance.
Netbook News says that a Lenovo rep says the delay is a “strategic business decision.” It’s not clear if the company plans to make changes before launching the notebook, or if Lenovo is waiting for the general release of Windows 7 which is expected to be available on October 22nd.
