Dell is launching a new 12 inch notebook in Japan today. The Vostro 1220 will be available through Dell Small Business in Japan for 79,980 Yen including Tax. That’s about $838 US. But bear in mind, computers tend to cost more in Japan.
The Dell Vostro 1220 has a 12.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel display and a Intel Centrino 2 CPU and GM45 chipset. The notebook weighs 3.4 pounds, making it heavy for a netbook, but light for a laptop. And with that CPU, size, weight, and price I don’t think this notebook is really aimed at your traditional netbook buyer.
The laptop will come with a choice of a 160GB 5400rpm hard drive or 250GB/320GB, 7200rpm hard drive. 4 and 6 cell battery options are available, and Dell says the 6 cell battery should provide up to 9 hours of run time.
Update: The Dell Vostro 1220 is now available in the US for $799 and up.
