can you boot from an external hard drive or usb?

i know its a silly question but the hp mini 2140 (the hd version) could only boot from its sd slot or usb cdrom and only if it was <= 2gig. hp tech support said it was a built in limit.

It goes back pretty far. I'd say to the point where it makes a roughly 45
degree angle. I'll try to remember to upload a photo with the screen folded
back when I get a chance.

how far back can you fold its screen? the hp mini doesnt fold back far enough at some angles and thats really annoying.

I gave away an Eee PC1000HE because the fan was way, way too loud. I now use a N120, and it's completely silent. Probably my favourite machine ever — and I've owned a *lot* of laptops.

After complaining about blubber books, I probably will buy later today a fat Asus Eee PC 1000HE. Any last-minute suggestions about an alternative? The reason for my sudden decision: my full-sized desktop died on Sunday, and my ancient 12-inch Powerbook has now become my desktop. With the Asus or some other netbook, I hope to get by with the small displays. Whether this will work (three book contracts), I don't know but shall give it a try. In practice, I don't do much travel beyond a few local libraries and archives, so. 3.2 lbs. should work (and it should be better for serious word processing than some lighter netbooks).

i prefer the asus device, cause i dont like the glossy display it is not useable when you outside. the ssd on jkk website is amazing, waiting for more esp. for a 1.8 incher.

Ya gotta hurry over to JKK mobile and check out the awsome RunCore SSD video and numbers there. UMPCportal also reporting on these lightning quick SSDs.
Tell em to test a LINUX boot and run in the videos too! Something heavy like the new KDE uses a lot of resources. OR something quick like crunchbang for testing.
