    quick question:
    * all 900A models have the SATA mini PCIe to use 3rd-party (runcore) SSDs?
    * can i take out the stock SSD and replace it with any 3rd-party 70mm mini PCIe SSD?

    TIA

I finally asked some similar questions myself on the eeeuser.com forums and was surprised to get several responses right away:
    http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewtopic.php?id=68770
I had already found some info on the Wikipedia page I mentioned above that apparently confirmed that the SSD in the original 4GB Eee PC 900s, at least, was not soldered in, and I saw no reason to think the 900A would be different:
"The Eee PC 900 comes with a removable PCI Express Mini SSD module, with or without four additional 1 GB memory chips soldered on the main board. Different models come with different-sized SSDs. One Linux version has 4 GB, an XP version has 8 GB, and all remaining ones (XP or Linux) have 16 GB"
This implies to me that they all came with a removable module, so if they only had one module, it would have to be removable. (I'm sure a lot of people who read this blog could have answered this from personal experience, but they didn't seem to be handy to ask.)

In any case, I'm about to order one of these :)

I remembered that JKKmobile dissected a 900A and made several blog posts about them last Aug-Sep '08. The posts are mixed in with some others in this search result, and you might be able to dig out the answers (assuming you haven't already seen this stuff):

If you study the spec chart on this page carefully, it may help you figure out which models of 900A have a usable PCIe slot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eee_PC

and this eeeuser wiki page may help with the replacement: http://wiki.eeeuser.com/replacing_secondary_ssd...

Sorry I don't know much about this. You could pose the questions on the eeeuser.com forums

Oops... the 900HA and 900HD both have hard drives... I guess they got me again with all their model numbers.

Make note. Both of the EEEPC 900's without the Atom processor have two SSD's in them. A 4GB designed for installing the OS, and an 8GB or 16GB SSD for data/programs. The larger SSD is significantly slower in R/W than the 4GB
