NVIDIA’s ION platform bundles a low power Intel Atom CPU with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor. The combination results in a chipset that still doesn’t have an enormous power draw, but which is capable of decoding Blu-Ray video. You also get better graphics performance for many video games and other programs.

Right now, the only product that’s officially been announced that will use the NVIDIA ION platform is the Acer AspireRevo nettop (mini-desktop) computer. But Pocket Lint is reporting that several companies will be introducing ION-based netbooks at the Computex trade show in Taiwan in June.

The news reportedly comes from a source within NVIDIA. There’s no word on which companies will be launching ION devices yet, but the source says there will be announcements from “key” players who could ship products as early as July.
