samsung-nc310-1The Samsung N110 isn’t the only new mini-laptop Samsung’s announcing today. The company also unveiled a new line of netbooks bearing the N310 name. These little computers are a much bigger departure from Samsung’s earlier netbook (the NC10) than the N110. They feature a dramatically redesigned chassis, a new keyboard that looks a lot like the chiclet-style keyboard found on the Asus Eee PC 1000HE, and a new lower resolution display.

Yup, Samsung’s jumping on the 10.1 inch, 1024 x 576 pixel screen bandwagon with this netbook. The base model has a battery that Samsung claims will run for up to 5 hours. An extended battery should provide up to 11 hours of run time. Update: It looks like the N310 will have a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel screen.

The N310 is wired for connectivity, with support for 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, HSDPA, and WiBRO. It has 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and an Intel Atom CPU. The laptop weighs about 2.7 pounds. No word on the price yet. The lower resolution display and lower capacity battery (on the base model) makes me think it could sell for a bit less than the N110. But the inclusion of HSDPA and WiBRO connectivity could drive up the price – unless wireless carriers opt to subsidize the cost of the N310.

The N310 will come in at least four colors: Black, blue, red, and a color I’m going to call turquoise for now. You can check out another picture after the break.

Update: Electric Pig reports that the N310 will be available in the UK in May for £399. No word on the US price or release date yet.

Update 2: And 499 Euros in Germany with an April 6th launch date.

  1. “Yup, Samsung’s jumping on the 10.1 inch, 1024 x 576 pixel screen bandwagon with this netbook.” Who decides to put a 1024 x 576 pixel screen on a Netbook? Not anyone who has used one. I think it’s people who want to punish their customers: “let’s see how badly we can make this computer and still get people to buy it.”

  2. €499 for the vanilla specs? I don’t think so.
Nevermind hspda and wibro, just don’t care. Who does?

  3. It looks less expensive because the monochrome keyboard used on all the units and the color just being the top and bottom. The seamless top display seems rather shiny and ‘finger-print’ magnetic. Otherwise, it does have a toy-is quality that I LIKE, but I hope this might be Samsung’s $375 machine.

  4. Looks kinda clunky to me. Lower vertical rez = not a good thing, that extra 24 pixels matters!

    1. it does and it’s a good thing. They look tactile and strokable. I’ll take the red one please. When/if the 720p screens come out, that is…
