Asus Eee PC T91 convertible tablet press shots appear

Asus has been showing off the upcoming Eee PC T91 since January. The netbook features a touchscreen that can be swiveled and folded down over the keyboard for use in tablet mode, making it one of the first convertible tablet style netbooks. Others include the Intel Classmate PC 3 reference design (and CTL 2Go PC based on that design) and the upcoming Gigabyte Touch Note M1028.

Now Asus has released some high quality press shots of the netbook. Sure, they don’t show any new features that we haven’t already seen. But it’s nice to get a better look at the computer, the touchscreen, keyboard, and new software interface.

It’s probably worth noting that in the picture on the right the hand model is either a child or heavily photoshopped. The T91 has an 8.9 inch display, and this image makes it (and the keyboard and touchpad) look unrealistically enormous.

Funny. The tiny hand makes the unit look big. But isn't the reason anyone would buy this is because they appreciate the small size? Knowing what a nine inch screen feels like this seems like a great netbook for me-- though from the picture alone I'd think differently.

They are just following MS lead in marketing to the 7 - 12 year old "market".

I guess MS's reasoning is the only portion of the market they haven't pissed
off is the generation born since XP was released. ;)

Note: Some of the new MS advertisements look like they are using a NetBook
(perhaps an HP 2140) - but I haven't done a screen capture to study them.

The next netbook I buy will have a touch screen and fold into a tablet. What I would like to see is a unit that that is a few ounces lighter, and a few millimeters thinner. The perfect netbook would be less then an inch thick and less then 2.5 lbs even with a six cell battery.

what os options are there? is there a linux distro that handles tablet mode ie touchscreen and on screen keyboard or handwriting recognition. wouldn't want it as windows only.

have to say i love the tablet mode on my olpc even though it doesn't have a touch screen. i might have to make tablet mode one of my must have requirements for all new netbooks i purchase. but tablet mode needs a fantastic battery life if it is to be useful for reading.

That "tiny hand" comment was pretty funny. Its true though. My five year old daughter has a bigger hand than this. By perspective ti makes the netbook look like the screen is 12 inches or greater. I like the unit though. Its definitely on my radar for purchase when it comes out. I am just glad everyone isn't completely abandoning the 9 inch platform.
