If you thought that $268 was a good price for a netbook… well, it is. But if you’re budget’s a little tighter than that, you might want to check out today’s Sellout.Woot deal. Woot.com and Yahoo! are offering an Asus Eee PC 2G Surf netbook for just $160.

Keep in mind, what you’re getting is essentially a first generation netbook. This model has been around since early 2008 or late 2007, back when the industry was still trying to figure out what people wanted from netbooks — and before the Intel Atom processor was available. So what you get is a tiny machine with a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, 2GB of solid state storge, 512MB of RAM, and an 800MHz CPU that’s underclocked to run at 571MHz. The mini-laptop runs Xandros Linux and comes with Firefox, OpenOffice.org, and a suite of other open source apps.

The Eee PC 2G Surf certainly isn’t the most powerful netbook available today. But at this price, it’s definitely one of the cheapest.

You can read more about the Asus Eee PC 2G Surf in the Liliputing Product Database.

thanks revoke!

We're each time nearer and nearer to the $100 laptop. Maybe it's not a dream after all.

That said, the "Best Buy" spec 900A is still available at mwave.com for $180, and far more useful and expandable. From what I understand, the surf doesn't have any expansion capabilities, which severely hampers it in the long run, while the 900A can at least bump memory and drop in a super talent SSD for extra storage.
