Asus Eee PC 1000HE

Amazon has been taking preorders for the Asus Eee PC 1000HE netbook for the past few weeks. Yeterday the company shipped the first batch of orders. The retailer is charging $374 for the laptop and is throwing in free shipping, although the web site says it takes 2-3 weeks to ship.

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is the successor to the Eee PC 1000H. Like its predecessor, the new computer has a 10 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Bluetooth, and 802.11b/g/n and runs Windows XP. The new model also has a shiny new 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU and a higher capacity battery that Asus says is good for up to 9.5 hours.

Except that 2-3 weeks is a joke. I placed my order earlier this week, and it said the shipping estimate was mid-April. I canceled and ordered from ZipZoomfly instead. They have the blue ones in stock and shipping within 24 hours. It's worth the extra $20 to me to have it sooner, since I'm going on vacation next week!

RIP my poor Acer Aspire One A150. It died from heat exhaustion (it didn't shut down properly and baked in my briefcase). This new Eee PC 1000HE will be my FOURTH netbook in the course of a year. (Original Eee PC 4G -> Aspire One A110 -> Aspire One A150 -> Eee PC 1000HE).

I hope it's everything I want it to be and more! [=^D

I was wondering if someone could tell me if the 1000HE heats up on the bottom while in use? Also, how loud is the fan? It's ironic that all the reviews for 1000HE from reputable sources don't even point out these things. 1000HE's competition, the Samsung NC10, has barely no heat on the bottom, and the fan is ultra-quiet, even when CPU is at 100%, for instance.
