And I should say that I almost immediately replaced Xandros with DebianEeePC and found that doing a basic install, I had a very usable system which only took up a little over 900mb of the 4gb SSD. Adding Firefox and OpenOffice and a few other things only takes up 1.5gb space altogether, leaving me with 1.9gb free. Works great! I mainly wanted it for an ultra-portable writing tool, so don't have much need for a bigger SSD, although I did spend $20 for a 2gb sodimm, mostly because I want to have it hibernate to RAM.

$199.99 in stores in Maryland, too. I got the very last one at the store I went to yesterday, all other stores in Maryland had very low stock according to the clerk's computer. A good bargain, for sure.

In El Paso, Texas I also saw the *** $199 *** price today (Thurs 1/15/09). I was tempted. I have an Acer Aspire One, but the touchpad was much better on the eee.

Never mind, I see that this is one of the models with the 4GB SSD in the secondary slot and nothing in the primary slot.

From a rewiew at Best Buy: “The 4GB SSD is on a mini PCIe expansion card and is SLOW – read speed is fine, but write speed is abysmal. It's still slightly usable in linux, but don't try to install windows on this one unless you replace the SSD…”

People-

I picked up one for 199 in store in NY and threw in the NEWEGG cheap 16 SSD for 36.00, and put in a 2 GB ram stick I had in my workshop. I installed the WINDOWS 7 beta on it over the weekend and it's running amazingly well. I've had VISTA on a few ATOM based netbooks and it never ran like this so Microsoft did something right for a change I'm sure it would run even better on a faster SSD or standard HD too.

That's a pretty crazy price. I doubt you would be able to fit Windows 7 on a 4GB SSD though.

Don't forget to manually delete the microsoft WMP codecs before installing a new codec pack, if you're installing Windows 7.
