amazon-netbooks

I just got an email from Amazon telling me that since I’ve “shown an interest in computers and wireless devices,” I might ant to know about “Hot Deals on Cool Netbooks.” Naturally I clicked the link and found a new page featuring netbooks and accessories from Acer, Asus, CTL, HP, MSI, Samsung, and Sylvania. The page is divided into several sections including most wanted, top brands, and new arrivals.

For the most part, there don’t seem to be too many deals on the page that weren’t around yesterday (I check these things pretty regularly). But if you’re looking for a good deal on netbooks, the new Amazon page is arranged in a way that makes comparison bargain hunting pretty simple. And there are a few deals worth checking out, like the Asus Eee PC 100HA for $385, or the Acer Aspire One with a 6 cell battery and Windows XP for $340.

  • Hmm, I have a love-hate relationship with Amazon these days. Sure they are the most convenient, but their up-and-down pricing drives me crazy. I saw that $339.99 Acer Aspire One 6-cell at work, but by the time I got home to sit down and buy it, the price had gone up to $365.11. What gives??? And they do this on other items. I was going to buy a camera from them and the price has gone up since I started looking at it. In fact, what appears to be happening is that it will start off at a low price, then jump way up, then come back down a little bit. Then go back up and down a little (but never back to that original low price). So your instinct is to buy it as soon as you see it drop in price. Similar to airline ticket pricing...

I do know Amazon's really into monitoring user behavior to tailor suggestions, but if they're tweaking prices once they know you're interested in something, that stinks.

I'll take my business somewhere where I don't have to do a Kabuki dance to get a decent price.
  • That's interesting, I buy quite a bit from Amazon (bought a jquery book today actually) and I've never noticed any rapid fluctuations like that, but then I usually go to buy something, know what I want to pay and then comparison with all the places on the net. I'll have to keep an eye out for it next time.
  • I must say, I love amazon
