10 inch Acer Aspire One available for preorder in the Philippines

aspire-one-pc-cornerPhilippine retailer PC Corner has set up a product page for the new 10 inch version of the Acer Aspire One. According to PC Corner, the netbook will be called the Acer Aspire 103, and in addition to the larger 10 inch display, it will have an Intel Atom N280 CPU with the GN40 chipset instead of the more common Intel Atom N270 CPU with the 945GSE chipset.

I’ve seen reports about the new name and the new chipset before, but I’ve held off on reporting on them because I was under the impression that the new Intel Atom N280 CPU wouldn’ t be available for a few months, while I expect the new Acer Aspire One netbooks to hit the shelves sometime in February. But either one of those things is not true or PC Corner got the information for its product listing from various internet sources and not from Acer.

The store gives the netbook a starting price of PhP 25,995 or about $548 US. That’s about twice as much as the retailer is charging for the cheapest 8.9 inch version of the Acer Aspire One.

    For $550.00 you might as well purchase a full size laptop. I told everyone I know that it would be more expensive. So is this really a deal? The netbooks should not be priced above $500.00 period. The idea of a small compact computing device was great, now everyone is trying to get bigger and bigger.

    Although a 10inch notebook is not a bad thing, when does it stop? The bottom line is that in my opinion although people asked for some larger units if manufactures had stood there ground and capped the size at 9inches then the public would have to deal with it.

    Lets think about it for instant. Dell put out a 12 inch netbook and how is that doing so far? Not very well I might ask.

    People purchased netbooks because of there small form factor and the ease of mobility, not necessarily the screen size. Lets face it. Everyone who wanted a netbook probably already has one in there collection although you may attract some additional customers it will not equal the boom that the 8.9 inch models created.

    you guy can disregard the price, netbooks in the Philippines are almost 30% to 40% expensive compared to the prices. Believe I buy my my stuff in Amazon + pay for international forwarding and its still cheaper to local prices in the Philippines.
  • i delayed my purchase of 8.9" AAO netbook to wait for this new 10" hoping that price is still reasonable but i guess price is too high for my budget so i might rather buy the 8.9" next week.
