  • 6 reasons Michael Arrington’s critique of netbooks is wrong

Michael Arrington, the driving force behind the popular tech blog TechCrunch has a thought provoking article today, entitled “Three Reasons Why Netbooks Just Aren’t Good Enough.” In a nutshell, he says they’re underpowered and that the keyboards and screens are too small.Fair enough, but you’ll notice he doesn’t say exactly what they’re not good enough for in the title. If you want a computer with a large screen, big keyboard, and powerful processor, then a netbook is absolutely not the right machine for you.
  • How to get more from a high capacity netbook battery

As I mentioned yesterday, when you buy an extended battery for your netbook or other device from a third party (in other words, any company beside the one that manufactured your computer), you run the risk of getting a unit that’s won’t really live up to your expectations. But Glogabl-Laptop-Batteries, a reseller of cheap third party batteries says there is hope.

Netbook maker MSI is adding two new models to its lineup. The MSI Wind U100 is already one of the more popular netbooks on the market thanks to its 10 inch display and roomy keyboard. And it’s a favorite among hackintosh enthusiasts because it runs OS X reasonably well.MSI had already announced plans to release an upgraded model called the MSI Wind U120, which will add a 3G HSUPA modem.

Looking for a Lenovo IdeaPad S10 with a high capacity battery? Then I certainly hope you live in Germany. Because the computer maker is shipping the IdeaPad S10 with a 6 cell battery in that country, while customers in the US and other locations have to settle for a 3 cell battery which provides 2-3 hours of battery life. Eee PC News reports that the netbook also has a starting price of 329 Euros, making it the cheapest netbook with a 10.2 inch screen and 6 cell battery in Germany.
  • Intel: Netbooks aren’t really laptop replacements

Speaking at a recent conference, an Intel executive said two rather interesting things. In a nutshell, he said that: Intel had originally expected netbooks to work well for developing markets, but the bulk of netbook sales are now in developed nations like the US and European countries. Netbooks, with their small screens and keyboards are fine if you want to use them for an hour or so, but you probably wouldn’t make it your primary computer.
