UMID MID

While the UMID MID is technically a MID or Mobile Internet Device and not a netbook, it’s clamshell design sort of makes me not care.

This tiny little guy has a 4.8 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel touchscreen, an Intel Atom CPU running at 1.1GHz or 1.33GHz, 8GB to 32GB of solid state storage, and 512MB to 1GB of RAM. It also has a single mini USB port, a Micro-SD card slot, and a space for a USIM card. It comes with a 1.3MP camera and weighs just 315 grams or just over 11 ounces.

It’s kind of hard to believe something this small could run anything other than Windows CE or a stripped down version of Linux. But it’s apparently Windows XP and Vista capable. It will also be available with Linux.

The UMID MID also sports a wide array of connectivity options, with support for WiBro, HSDPA, WiMAX, WiFi, and Bluetooth. It can also pick up digital TV in Europe, Korea, and Japan thanks to DMB and DVB-T support.

My god! It's absolutely gorgeous! HOW many grams did you say?! Oh, so very, very drool. A few things worry me, mostly what is the pointing device? And, obviously, what will the price be?

    But OMG, I WANT it!

It has a touchscreen, which I think will be the primary pointing method. I suppose you could probably plug in a mouse as well, but that would use up your only USB port.

Since it has Wibro I doubt it will be sold outside of Korea.
