But apparently 70% of netbooks are sold in Europe.VIA marketing manager Richard Brown picked up that statistic at a conference hosted by Phoenix, the folks who develop the BIOS software used on millions of comptuers.  One possible reason why netbook sales are so much higher in Europe than the rest of the world is because European cellphone carriers offer a number of low cost 3G wireless data plans for laptop users.

    In what we can only hope is the beginning of a major trend, Dell appears to be planning to offer a deep discount on its netbook just in time for the holidays. According to a leaked copy of Dell’s Black Friday ad, the company will be offering a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook for $299 on the day after Thanksgiving.It’s not clear from the ad exactly how the netbook will be configured.

Online retailer Buy.com has the computer in stock for $499 and says it ships in just 1-2 business days.
