By their very nature, netbooks are already cheap laptops. But in a few weeks, they may get even cheaper, at least for a day or so. The day after Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday, is one of the busiest shopping days of the year in the US, and also a day when many retailers offer substantial one-day discounts.
We’ve already seen that Dell is planning to slash $50 off the base price of the Inspiron Mini 9 laptop. But it’s likely that a number of other netbook makers and/or stores will offer their own discounts. Datamation has a list of 10 tips for finding a good deal on a netbook this Black Friday.
Probably the most useful tip is the custom Google Search for finding netbook and sunbnotebook deals at a number of web sites that track Black friday deals. But there are also a few other good suggestions, like watch out for open box and returned items that may have something wrong with them, or netbooks that come with Linux preinstalled when you were looking for a Windows version. There’s nothing wrong with Linux – but there is something wrong with stores that do their best to make sure it’s not clear what operating system is running on that cheap notebook on the shelf.
