In what we can only hope is the beginning of a major trend, Dell appears to be planning to offer a deep discount on its netbook just in time for the holidays. According to a leaked copy of Dell’s Black Friday ad, the company will be offering a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook for $299 on the day after Thanksgiving.

It’s not clear from the ad exactly how the netbook will be configured. But considering the fact that Dell’s cheapest Inspiron Mini 9 right now costs $349, this looks like a pretty good deal. You know, unless Dell decides to cut some major feature from its base model, like WiFi.

My guess is that you’ll get a netbook with an 8GB solid state disk, 512MB of RAM, and Ubuntu Linux for $299. But there’s always a chance that Dell may surprise us and offer something a bit more powerful.

It will probably be the 4GB SSD, not the 8GB. The 4GB/512MB/Ubuntu Dell mini 9 is the $349 model.
