It’s been a busy week at Liliputing HQ. I’ve moved the server to help improve the web site’s performance. I aded a shiny new “about” page that I highly recommend you direct people to if they’re still scratching their heads trying to figure out what a netbook is. And I’m almost certain that the forums should be back online later today.

But enough about me. Here are a few of the best stories we’ve covered on Liliputing over the past week:

  • Eee PC birthday party – with cake
The first Asus Eee PC was sold a year ago this week in Taiwan. It was the netbook that launched a thousand… netbooks. And this week zany folks at Laptop Magazine decided to celebrate with a party. An awkward, anthropomorphic party.
  • Who’s the target market for the Asus Eee PC S101
And what a year it’s been. Asus may have practically created the consumer netbook market, but the company’s also responsible for stretching the definition of the netbook. The Asus Eee PC S101 is small and light, but it’s also pricy (by netbook standards). So who’s supposed to buy it? According to a leaked sales kits “social elites.” You have to see the pictures to see what that means.
  • Samsung NC10 coming to the US
Samsung may be better known as an electronics company than a computer manufacturer in the US. But Samsung’s upcoming NC10 netbook looks hot. And it’s coming to the US.
  • How to install OS X on the Lenovo Ideapad S10
It seems like every time a new netbook is released, a new set of instructions quickly follows explaining how to install OS X on it. Now it’s the Lenovo IdeaPad S10’s turn.
  • Mandriva 2009 Linux on the Eee PC 1000H
Mandriva 2009 was released last week, and one of the major updates is out of the box support for Intel Atom powered netbooks. I took it for a spin on the Eee PC 1000H.
  • HP to launch netbook with 10-inch screen this year
In what should come as a surprise to nobody, HP has confirmed plans to release an update to its Mini-Note line. All we know at this point is that it will have a 10 inch display (current models have a 9 inch screen), and that it will likely have a VIA Nano CPU. Oh yeah, and that first generation HP Mini-Notes are going cheap right now.
  • MSI Wind vs. Asus Eee PC 1000H: The nitpicker’s guide
The MSI Wind U100 and the Asus Eee PC 1000H are two of the most evenly matched netbooks around when it comes to price, power, screen size, and storage capacity. But there are some differences. This field guide should help you tell one netbook from the other when spotted in the wild.
