Lenovo is apparently pushing back its estimated ship date for the IdeaPad S10 laptop – by a full two months. When I ordered the netbook a few weeks ago Lenovo said it would ship on September 9th. But after spending much of yesterday hitting refresh on the order status page I saw no movement. When I checked again this morning, I saw a new date: 11/18/08.
I’m not the only one. Liliputing reader PK says his order status has been updated as well.
If the laptop’s not ready to ship, or if Lenovo doesn’t have enoug in stock, that’s fine. But I don’t understand why the company would wait until the day after the original estimated ship date to update its status page. And more importantly, I had to check my order status on Lenovo’s web site to find out about the delay. Lenovo has yet to send me an email or give me a phone call.
It does look like Lenovo is getting a few units out the door. As Eee PC News.de reports, a Chinese web site has posted one of the first reviews of the laptop, complete with a bunch of pictures. Check out a few pictures of the RAM and HDD access panels after the break.
Update: A number of people with estimated ship dates of 9/16 or 9/23 have noted that their order status has not changed. While it’s certainly possible that these units will ship on time, my understanding is that customers who originally saw a 9/09 ship date were among the first to put in their orders. And I’ve seen numerous reports of these orders being delayed. My guess is that Lenovo will update the status on the 9/16 and 9/23 orders after those dates come and go.
