Not happy with the 2-3 hours of battery life that you can get from the Eee PC 701 battery? DealExtreme is selling a massive 10400mAh battery that should provide enough juice for 10+ hours of use.

The battery pack should work with most first and second generation Eee PC units, including the Eee PC 701 and Eee PC 900. It will not fit the Eee PC 901 or 1000 series. Oh, and just so you know, not only will the battery stick out of the back of your device a bit, it weighs a whopping 16.05 ounces. That’s right, the battery alone weighs more than a pound, which is quite a bit when you consider the fact that the Eee PC itself weighs just over 2 pounds.

The battery pack is selling for $49.90 with free shipping, which is a rather remarkable price. Perhaps even too good to be true? If you’ve ever ordered from DealExtreme, let us know about your experiences in the comments.

  1. There are many other on-line shops selling 10,400 mA EeePc701 batteries. The point is: most of them come from the same place in China. You can experiment how weak is Quality-Control that part of the World.
I have bought 2 batteries from 2 different on-line shop. The cells were good, but the driven circuitry was not.
So I had to open them and replace the electronic with the older one.
You can find directives at https://www.technfun.com/pages/article.php?id=25

  2. I’ve got one of these from DealExtreme today, and plugged in right now. It’s refusing to take a charge. $50 down the drain.

    Too good to be true.

    1. This might sound strange, but try putting the battery in the fridge for a few hours. Then plug it in and let it get to room temp while trying to charge.

If that doesn’t work, put it in the freezer for a while (long enough to get to freezing temp) then put it in the netbook, using paper towel to catch condensation. Let that try and charge untill it is room temp. It should work.

Once you get the thing started, it will continue to work after.
If you cannot get it to work that way, (flashing orange light on netbook) you will need to find a 12 volt power supply that is low Ma. something like 200-500 and put that right on the positive and negative terminals of the battery. (!OBSERVE POLARITY!)

The smart charge controller in the battery should start charging the battery by its self.

If that does not work, you will need to open it and bypass the charging controller completely. You only need to charge the cells for a min or so, just to get the voltage high enough.

Of course, you can just let DX know, and they will replace it.
They are very good about it. Ask for Nicole, or Kyle. (Kyle is the owner.)

  3. Nice monster! Twice the capacity probably results in a doubled uptime, about 6-7 hours. reminds me of the One A110/A120 (like Airis Kira), which also has such an ugly big battery (standard shipping). But the A110 costs only 200€, weighs 2 pounds including the battery and runs for about 5 hours.

  4. i have had one of these ( but not from DealExtreme), and it works fine on my 701. My longest uptime is around 5 hours, this is with wifi on, streaming audio over the web, a few video clips, and general web browsing. It is bulky, but it was worth the money.
If the weight does not put you off, then get one.

  5. These big batteries for the Eee PC have been around for quite sometime but not a inexpensive as this.

  6. I’ve purchased quite a few items from DealExtreme and they have been very reliable. No problems whatsoever.

  7. I also have ordered from dealextreme dozens of times … They always deliver and have good customer service. The quality of the products they sell can be a bit of a mixed bag though, I’ve gotten two defective iPod charging/sync cables from them. Whatever they sell is the same cheap stuff you see on eBay, usually sold for a lower price.

  8. I don’t know about the battery, but dealextreme is a trusted website – I ordered from them before, paid using paypal – no problems, helpful and surprisingly responsive support, discount bulk rates & free shipping to Canada & US.
